Nitofill PU130: Hydrophobic Polyurethane Injection Resin

Overview

Nitofill PU130 is a multi-purpose hydrophobic polyurethane injection resin engineered for sealing leaking cracks, failed joints, and filling voids in concrete structures. As a single-component system, it utilizes an accelerator to adjust the reaction profile based on specific job site conditions, making it a versatile solution for various concrete repair applications.

Key Features and Advantages

Nitofill PU130 offers several distinctive characteristics that make it suitable for demanding construction environments:

  • High Hydrostatic Pressure Resistance: Can withstand high hydrostatic pressures during and after the sealing process
  • Variable Reaction Times: The reaction profile can be adjusted using accelerator concentrations to suit different job site conditions
  • Semi-Flexible Properties: Provides flexibility and resilience in sealed and filled structures
  • Hydrophobic Composition: Water-repellent characteristics ensure effective sealing against water infiltration
  • Environmentally Safe: Solvent-free formulation reduces environmental impact
  • Broad Reactivity: Reacts with saline and mineral water in various environmental conditions

Primary Applications

Nitofill PU130 is designed for multiple concrete repair and sealing applications:

  • Sealing against leaking cracks and joints in concrete structures
  • Sealing against water infiltration in masonry and brickwork
  • Void filling in generally inaccessible locations
  • Back grouting applications
  • Preventing water ingress into concrete structures

Technical Specifications

Chemical Composition and Properties

Nitofill PU130 is formulated as a hydrophobic polyurethane material. When mixed with accelerator and water, it reacts to form a semi-flexible, hydrophobic, and chemically resistant polyurethane foam. The cured foam demonstrates excellent chemical resistance properties.

Expansion Characteristics

Nitofill PU130 demonstrates significant expansion capabilities when activated with accelerator:

  • Expansion Ratio: Greater than 29 times original volume in 55 seconds at 25°C with up to 5% accelerator
  • Foaming Range: Between 18 and 31 times original volume depending on temperature and accelerator concentration
  • Density of Expanded Foam: 32 kg/m³

Reaction Profile (with 2.5% Water Addition)

The reaction time varies based on temperature and accelerator concentration:

Temperature (°C) Accelerator (%) Initiation Time (seconds) Expansion Time (min:sec) Foaming Ratio
10 2.5 50 3:15 >20x
20 2.5 19 2:10 >25x
25 2.5 15 1:15 >28x
30 2.5 11 0:55 >31x
25 0.00 43 5:20 >18x
25 1.25 23 2:50 >21x
25 5.00 12 0:55 >29x

Material Conditioning and Storage

Pre-Application Conditioning: Material should be conditioned to appropriate temperatures for at least 12 hours prior to application to ensure optimal performance.

Shelf Life: Nitofill PU130 has a shelf life of 12 months from the date of manufacture when kept in a dry store in the original, unopened packs.

Storage Precautions: Containers must be kept sealed when not in use. Moisture absorbed from the atmosphere can cause premature reaction. Careful consideration should be given to applications below 10°C on a falling thermometer to avoid possible crystallization.

Application Instructions

Preparation and Mixing

  • Drill appropriately sized holes at a 45° angle to intersect cracks or joints approximately halfway through concrete thickness
  • Homogenization: Always ensure material is homogeneous by mixing the resin using a dry, clean drill with a paddle mixer for a minimum of 15 seconds before application
  • Space injection packers along the crack length close enough to ensure resin penetration to the next injection point

Injection Process

  • Pump Nitofill PU130 resin slowly until resin appears on the face of the crack
  • Start at the lowest point and work upwards
  • Use high-pressure packers and couplers for reliable application

Accelerator Addition

  • Optional Use: Nitofill Accelerator use is optional
  • Dosage Range: Add accelerator up to 5% per 20kg drum
  • Concentration Range: Between 2% and 5% can be mixed with Nitofill PU130 to accelerate reaction times

Reaction Mechanism

Reaction with water results in the formation of a semi-flexible polyurethane foam that is hydrophobic and chemically resistant. This foam expands to fill voids and seal cracks effectively.

Equipment and System Components

Nitofill PU130 requires specialized injection equipment for proper application:

Injection Packers and Couplers

High-pressure packers and couplers are essential for reliable application:

  • Nitofill Steel Packer 10mm x 95mm: Supplied in packs of 100 units (product code FC344228-UNIT)
  • Nitofill Steel Packer 13mm x 100mm: Supplied in packs of 100 units (product code FC344227-UNIT)
  • Nitofill Coupler 4 Jaw: Features a grease nipple valve allowing quick connection/disconnection with positive shut-off

Pump Equipment

  • Single Component Injection Pump: Equipped for high pressure
  • The pre-mixed resin can be pumped by means of a single component injection pump that is equipped for high pressure

Cleaning and Removal

Uncured Material

Nitofill PU130 should be removed from tools, equipment, and mixers with Fosroc Solvent 10 immediately after use.

Cured Material

Cured polyurethane foam can only be removed from surfaces and equipment through mechanical removal methods.

Pump Maintenance

Following injection, the pump must be thoroughly cleaned with Fosroc Solvent 10 to prevent material buildup and ensure equipment longevity.
