Applications and Uses

Flamex One is designed for sealing low movement interior joints requiring fire resistance in the following construction types:

  • Tilt-up Construction - Sealing joints in tilt-up concrete wall systems
  • High and Low Rise Construction - Interior fire-resistant joint sealing in multi-story buildings
  • Precast Concrete - Sealing joints between precast concrete wall panels and components
  • In-situ Concrete - Interior joint sealing in cast-in-place concrete construction

Design Criteria and Joint Configuration

Flamex One can be used in joints ranging from 10mm to 20mm wide. The sealant depth should ideally be half the width with a minimum depth of 10mm. However, the joint configuration must be considered with reference to the required fire resistance rating achieved in testing.

Joint Backing

Expandafoam Closed Cell backing rod must be used as backing material to achieve the correct joint configuration and optimal performance.

Fire Resistance Performance

Flamex One has been tested to AS1530.4:2014 fire resistance standards. The following table summarizes fire rating test results achieved in joints between concrete wall panels 120mm thick:

Joint Size Configuration Integrity (min) Insulation (min) FRL
20mm x 20mm Sealed fire side only 250 50 -/240/30
20mm x 10mm Sealed non-fire side only 250 107 -/240/90
20mm x 10mm Sealed both sides 250 166 -/240/150
20mm x 10mm Sealed fire side only 250 28 -/240/-

Specific test results are available in FireTSLab Report PF21065, with full copies available from the Fosroc website.

Application Instructions

Joint Preparation

The joint surfaces must be:

  • Dry, clean, and frost-free
  • Free from dust, laitance, form release agents, and curing compounds

Surface preparation should include vigorous wire brushing, grinding, or grit blasting to remove contaminants. Remove rust, scale, and protective lacquers from metal surfaces. Oil or grease must be removed using Fosroc Solvent 10.

Priming

Primers are generally not required on correctly prepared surfaces. On excessively porous surfaces, adhesion can be improved by diluting Flamex One 1:3 with water and brushing this solution into the joint sides.

Tooling

Immediately after gunning Flamex One into joints, the sealant must be well tooled using a smooth tool with a slightly convex edge. A small amount of water may be used to assist tooling. This process ensures:

  • Good contact with joint faces
  • Optimal surface wetting for adhesion
  • Smooth finish appearance

Supply and Coverage

Flamex One is supplied in 600ml sausages packaged in cartons of 20.

Product Code: FC920025-600ML

Coverage: Each 600ml sausage will seal approximately 2 metres of a 25mm x 12mm joint.

Storage and Maintenance

Store Flamex One in original packaging under cool, dry conditions not exceeding 25°C.

Equipment Cleaning

  • Uncured Sealant - Clean with water
  • Cured Sealant - Requires soaking in water combined with scrubbing for removal

Standards Compliance

  • AS1530.4:2014 - Fire resistance testing for building materials
  • Copies of full test reports available from Fosroc website

Safety and Documentation

A Safety Data Sheet (SDS) is available from the Fosroc website. Users must read both the SDS and Technical Data Sheet carefully prior to use, as application and performance data may change over time.

In emergency situations, contact any Poisons Information Centre (phone 13 11 26 within Australia) or a doctor for advice.
