Application Instructions
Surface Preparation
Proper steel preparation is critical for optimal primer performance:
- Expose fully any corroded steel in the repair area
- Remove all loose scale and flaky corrosion deposits
- Grit blasting or high pressure water blasting is recommended for this process
- High-pressure wash with clean water immediately after grit-blasting (for chloride-contaminated steel) to remove corrosion products from pits and surface imperfections
- Steel preparation window: Nitoprime Zincrich must be applied to dry steel within 3 hours of steel preparation
Application Process
- Stir the single-component product thoroughly before use to redisperse any settlement
- Apply one full and unbroken coat using a suitable brush
- Ensure proper coating of the back of exposed steel reinforcing bars
- Allow to dry fully before continuing
- If an unbroken coating is not achieved, apply a second coat as soon as the first coat is fully dry
- Apply concrete repair mortar over Nitoprime Zincrich as soon as it is fully dry (typically 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on environmental conditions)
- Maximum 14 days interval acceptable in non-aggressive exterior environments
- Reduce interval to practical minimum in industrial and/or marine environments
Low Temperature Working
- Minimum application temperature is 5°C
- Material should not be applied when substrate and/or air temperature is 5°C and falling
- Application may proceed at 5°C stable temperature or 5°C and rising
Material Composition
Nitoprime Zincrich's protective properties derive from its key chemical components:
- Metallic Zinc – provides anti-corrosion protection
- Epoxy Resins – form the binder matrix
- These components work synergistically to create a durable protective coating against corrosive attack
Storage and Shelf Life
- Storage conditions: Original packaging in cool, dry area
- Shelf life: May be reduced if stored at high temperatures
- Temperature range: Cool, dry storage conditions recommended
Cleaning and Removal
- Remove from tools and equipment using Fosroc Solvent 10 immediately after use
- Solvent 10 is supplied in 4 and 20 litre containers
Standards Compliance
Nitoprime Zincrich demonstrates comprehensive regulatory compliance:
- British Board of Agreement certification – Certificate No. 91/2582 as part of Renderoc concrete repair system
- AS/NZS 3750.9 Type 1 conformance
- AS4020:2018 compliance – tested to drinking water standards (AWQC Report 354931)
- Certification copies available from the Fosroc website
Compatible Applications
Nitoprime Zincrich is specifically formulated for use with:
- Renderoc concrete repair mortars – all products in the range are compatible
- Fluid micro-concretes
- Nitobond SBR mortars – applied over the fully dry primer
- Guncrete E – applied as a full coat before Guncrete E in areas with exposed corroded steel
Important Safety Information
A Safety Data Sheet (SDS) is available from the Fosroc website and must be read carefully prior to use, as application and performance data may change over time.
