Nitoflor Anti-Slip Grains 21: Technical Details, Specifications, and Features
Product Overview
Nitoflor Anti-Slip Grains 21 is a calcined bauxite grit aggregate additive specifically designed to enhance slip resistance in resin-based flooring systems. This product is engineered for use with Nitoflor resin-based products to produce non-slip industrial floors, making it ideal for wet zones and areas where safety is the highest priority, such as abattoir flooring.
Primary Material Composition
The product is composed of #16/30 Calcined Bauxite aggregate, with calcined bauxite comprising more than 70% of the total product composition. This high-quality calcined bauxite is graded specifically to suit Nitoflor products and features an angular profile that provides positive traction on resinous floor finishes.

Design Criteria and Application Method
Nitoflor Anti-Slip Grains 21 is applied as a broadcast application into the base coat of resinous flooring. The grit is then encased with the second sealer coat application of resinous flooring. The product should be allowed to fall vertically onto the resin coating rather than be thrown across the surface, as this may cause ridges in the resin flooring.
Application Rate: The application rate will vary for different resin-based flooring, taking into consideration the slip rating requirement. Coverage is typically 2 to 3 kg/m².
Performance Characteristics
Slip Resistance Ratings
When used with different resin-based flooring systems, Nitoflor Anti-Slip Grains 21 achieves the following slip resistance performance:
- With Nitoflor FC150 HP/SL: Achieves a P5 wet pendulum test rating, representing a high standard for slip resistance performance
- With Nitoflor PU600: Provides slip resistance with an R13 slip rating
Additional Performance Advantages
Beyond slip resistance, Nitoflor Anti-Slip Grains 21 offers several advantageous properties:
- Non-staining – Does not discolour surrounding surfaces
- Chemically resistant – Suitable for demanding chemical environments
- Thermal resistant – Capable of withstanding temperature variations and hot water or steam cleaning
- Pre-packaged, ready for immediate site use – Convenient packaging for rapid deployment
Application Instructions
Preparation and Broadcasting: Nitoflor Anti-Slip Grains 21 are applied as a broadcast application into the freshly applied first roll coat of resinous floor finish at the nominated rate. The product should fall vertically onto the resin coating to prevent surface irregularities.
Excess Grit Removal: After the base floor coating has hardened, any excess grit is removed by vacuum before the second/sealer coat of resinous flooring is applied to encapsulate the grit.
Coverage: The coverage figures given are theoretical. Due to wastage factors and the variety and nature of possible substrates, practical coverage figures will be reduced. Theoretical coverage is 2 to 3 kg/m².
Storage and Safety
Storage Requirements: Store in dry conditions in original packaging to maintain product integrity and performance.
Safety Documentation: A Safety Data Sheet (SDS) is available from the Fosroc website. Both the SDS and Technical Data Sheet (TDS) must be read carefully prior to use, as application or performance data may change over time.
Emergency Contact: In emergency situations, contact any Poisons Information Centre (phone 13 11 26 within Australia) or a doctor for advice.
Intended Applications
Nitoflor Anti-Slip Grains 21 is particularly suited for:
- Wet zones requiring non-slip surfaces
- Areas with high safety priority where slip hazards must be minimized
- Industrial flooring applications in food processing facilities and similar environments
- Floors requiring hot water or steam cleaning due to thermal resistance properties
