Nitoflor FC150 HP/SL - High Performance Epoxy Floor Coating
Overview
Nitoflor FC150 HP/SL is a heavy-duty, two-component epoxy floor coating system manufactured by Fosroc, specifically designed for demanding industrial and commercial flooring applications. This high-performance coating delivers exceptional durability, chemical resistance, and aesthetic versatility for environments requiring both protection and visual appeal.
Product Description
Nitoflor FC150 HP/SL is a self-smoothing epoxy resin system supplied in pre-tinted kits available in 8 litre and 16 litre sizes. The product utilizes base, hardener, and colour pot components that are common to both roll coat and self-levelling screed applications. The formulation produces a slightly textured gloss finish when applied as a roll coat, while creating a smooth, durable surface when applied as a self-levelling system.
Application Methods
The product offers two primary application methods:
- Roll Coat Application: Applied in two coats using brush or roller application methods, achieving an approximate total dry film thickness of 400-500 microns (200-250 microns per coat)
- Self-Levelling Screed: Applied at a nominal thickness of 2 to 4mm, providing a dense, impervious, seamless floor surface

Mixing Requirements
Proper mixing is critical for optimal performance:
- Method: Use a slow-speed mixer (350-500 rpm) fitted with a large spiral-type mixing attachment
- Procedure: Add colour pots to base component, mix for 1 minute; add hardener, mix for minimum 3 minutes
- Important: Mix in an efficient manner to ensure no colour pigment streaking; scrape vessel walls with a spatula
- Pot Life Extension: Pour product into flat trays rather than keeping in original container to extend working time
Substrate Requirements
Moisture and Environmental Conditions
- Substrate Moisture Content: Must be less than 5% (verified using Tramex CMEX11 moisture meter)
- Relative Humidity: Not greater than 75% at installation time
- Rising Damp: Should not be applied to surfaces known to suffer from or likely to suffer from rising damp
- Application Temperature: Both substrate and ambient temperature must be above 10°C
- Concrete Age: At least 28 days old for new water-reduced concrete
Surface Preparation
Essential for maximum adhesion:
- Remove all loose materials, old coatings, curing compounds, release agents, laitance, oil, and grease
- Achieve CSP profile of 2-3 using light grit blasting or grinding
- Remove dust and debris via vacuum cleaning
- For epoxy resin screeds: rub down high spots and trowel marks; light sanding may be applicable
Priming
- Apply 1-2 coats of Nitomortar 903 before Nitoflor FC150 HP/SL application
- Allow touch-dry between prime coats and 12-24 hours prior to main coating application
- On very porous concrete, additional third coat of Nitoflor FC150 HP/SL may be required
Standards Compliance
- APAS 0292 V3 - Class 1 Conformity (roll coat)

Storage Conditions
- Temperature Range: 10°C to 30°C in original unopened packs
- Environment: Keep in dry storage conditions
- Shelf Life: Reduced at high temperatures
- Note: The new formulation is NOT compatible with previous base, hardener, or colour pot versions
Limitations and Restrictions
Nitoflor FC150 HP/SL should not be applied in the following circumstances:
- On surfaces suffering from rising damp or moisture content exceeding 5%
- To asphalt, weak or friable concrete, unmodified sand cement screeds, PVC tiles/sheets, or substantially moving substrates
- As an application over tiles
- In areas where significant thermal shock is likely to occur
- For exterior use where subject to sunlight or prolonged chlorinated water immersion
- Below 10°C substrate and ambient temperature
Colour Stability Considerations
- UV Sensitivity: Not UV stable; discolouration may occur even in internal environments including exposure through windows
- Chemical Staining: Some colours may darken or develop a brown tinge when exposed to sunlight or certain chemicals (more noticeable on white, light, and grey systems)
- Batch Consistency: Use only components with identical batch numbers in one application area to ensure uniform colour
Maintenance and Service Life
The service life can be considerably extended through good housekeeping practices:
- Regular cleaning using rotary scrubbing machines with water-miscible cleaning agents
- Temperature management up to 55°C service temperature
- In applications where long-term appearance is important, clear sealers or polishes may be necessary to protect the epoxy and provide renewable top coats
Safety and Environmental Information
- Solvent-Free Formulation: Reduces environmental impact and improves worker safety
- VOC Content: 14g/litre, meeting environmental standards
- Cleaning: Tools and equipment should be cleaned immediately after use with Fosroc Solvent 10; hardened material can only be removed mechanically
- Important: Do not add solvents to the mix; acetone, methylated spirits, and other solvents significantly affect curing and intercoat adhesion
