Concure CR: Chlorinated Rubber Based Concrete Curing Compound

Overview

Concure CR is a solvent-based chlorinated rubber curing compound specifically designed to cure, seal, and harden the surfaces of newly laid concrete. It consists of a processed blend of chlorinated rubber and modifying agents dispersed in Xylene, creating a stable, transparent, quick-drying liquid that enhances concrete strength and durability during the critical early curing phase.

Key Features and Advantages

Concure CR offers multiple benefits for concrete curing applications:

  • Enhanced Hydration: Enables concrete to hydrate more efficiently, facilitating optimal strength development
  • Standards Compliance: Complies with Australian Standards AS3799 as a Class C, Type 1 curing compound
  • Superior Water Retention: Achieves water retention efficiency of 94% at the specified coverage rate
  • Increased Durability: Increases concrete strength and dusting resistance, improving the concrete's resistance to chemicals and surface deterioration
  • Eliminates Traditional Methods: Removes the need for damp hessian, sand, or polythene sheeting as alternative curing methods
  • Rapid Film Formation: Forms a protective membrane quickly after application
  • Odourless When Dry: Provides a user-friendly application experience
  • Easy Maintenance: Facilitates job cleanup and ongoing maintenance of coated surfaces

Composition and Properties

Concure CR's formulation consists of chlorinated rubber combined with modifying agents suspended in Xylene solvent. The resulting compound exhibits the following technical properties:

Property Value
Water Retention Efficiency 94% (AS3799.3.1.2)
Non-Volatile Content 18.29% (AS3799.3.1.2)
Density 0.942 kg/L (AS3799.3.1.9)
Viscosity 0.01 Pa.s (AS3799.3.1.5)
VOC Content 760g/litre
Drying Time 3 hours (AS3799.3.1.4)
Appearance Clear, light honey coloured
Dry Film Thickness Minimum 35 microns (single coat)

Application Instructions

New Concrete Surfaces

Concure CR should be evenly sprayed over freshly laid concrete as soon as possible after final trowelling. Ideally, application should commence once surface bleed water has evaporated. The product must be applied at a coverage rate of 5 square metres per litre to achieve correct curing properties.

Application Rate and Coverage

  • Coverage Rate: 5m² per litre
  • Dry Film Thickness Target: Not less than 35 microns
  • Application Method: Spray application is recommended

Design Criteria

The coating should be applied in a single coat to achieve a total dry film thickness of not less than 35 microns. To ensure the correct curing properties are obtained, Concure CR must be applied to the substrate at the coverage rate of 5m² per litre.

Typical Uses

Concure CR is typically used on:

  • Freshly laid concrete floors: For effective curing during initial strength development
  • Vertical concrete areas: Immediately after formwork removal to assist strength development and improve chemical resistance during construction
  • General construction applications: Where efficient moisture retention and improved concrete properties are required

Standards Compliance

Concure CR meets Australian Standards AS3799 as a Class C, Type 1 curing compound with water retention efficiency of 94% at 5m²/litre. Boral test certificate 648/20 is available on request.

Storage and Shelf Life

Concure CR has a shelf life of 5 years if kept in original, unopened packs. The product should be stored in:

  • Cool, dry conditions
  • Away from sources of heat and naked flames
  • In original unopened packaging

Storage at high temperatures and/or high humidity conditions may reduce shelf life.

Limitations and Chemical Resistance

Not Resistant To

Concure CR exhibits limited chemical resistance to certain substances, including:

  • Oxidising agents: Sodium hypochlorite, bromine water, and sulphur dioxide
  • Strong acids: Concentrated acetic acid, concentrated phosphoric acid, concentrated nitric acid, and chromic acid
  • Strong bases: Concentrated ammonia
  • Oils and fats: Animal fats, oils, synthetic oils (brake fluid, transmission fluids), vegetable oils, and higher fatty acids (oleic acid)
  • Solvent types: Aromatic hydrocarbons, esters, ketones, and chlorinated solvents

Application Limitations

  • Cement-based renders and toppings should not be applied over Concure CR without prior removal
  • The product will yellow when subject to ultraviolet radiation from sunlight
  • Bond failure may occur if applied to substrates subject to back water pressure or where salt particles are present

Cleaning and Removal

Concure CR should be removed from tools and equipment with Fosroc Solvent 10 immediately after use. For surface preparation before subsequent applications, Concure CR can be removed by grit blasting or grinding to provide a mechanical key.

Alternative Applications

Concure CR is recommended as an alternative to Concure A99 for use with metallic-based integral floor hardeners, where it functions to prevent rust and ensure compatibility with metal-containing hardening systems.

Concure CR is also an approved curing compound that can be used as a substrate before applying Nitoflor FC100, a high-performance floor coating. When Concure CR is used as a preparatory base, single-coat application of Nitoflor FC100 may be suitable in certain cases, depending on project specifications and requirements.
