Concure B90: Comprehensive Technical Details, Specifications, and Features
Overview
Concure B90 is a water-dispersed hydrocarbon resin and bitumen blend curing compound specifically formulated to serve dual functions: curing concrete and acting as a primer coat for asphalt and bitumen overlays. This innovative product combines the benefits of concrete curing with bitumen surface preparation in a single application, making it ideal for road and bridge construction projects.
Product Description
Concure B90 is a blend of bitumen and hydrocarbon resins emulsified in water. When applied to concrete surfaces, the product forms an impervious film that prevents excessive water evaporation, promotes efficient cement hydration, and minimizes shrinkage while increasing the durability of the concrete. The formulation is water-based and contains no wax, distinguishing it from traditional solvent-based curing compounds.
Key Advantages
- Dual functionality: Acts as both a concrete curing compound and primer coat for asphalt or bitumen overlays
- Ideal for major construction: Particularly suitable for bridge decks and road construction where a concrete curing compound and bitumen primer can be applied in a single application
- Water retention: Achieves water retention efficiency of >90%, complying with Australian Standards AS3799
- Environmentally friendly: Water-based formulation with no solvent odour; equipment cleanable in water
- Reduced shrinkage: Reduces plastic shrinkage in concrete
- Eliminates traditional methods: Eliminates the need for curing by ponded water, damp hessian, or polythene sheeting
- Wax-free formulation: Does not contain wax, unlike some alternative curing compounds
Standards Compliance
Concure B90 meets the following regulatory standards:
- AS 3799-1998: Classified as Class Z, Type 1 curing compound (Boral Req. 108594)
- Australian Standards AS3799: Achieves water retention of greater than 90%
- TfNSW Specification R83: Complies with New South Wales transportation requirements
Copies of test certificates are available from the Fosroc website.

Primary Applications
Ideal Uses
- Bridge decks: Ideal primer coat for asphalt or bitumen overlays on concrete bridges
- Road construction: Serves as concrete curing compound and bitumen primer in road construction projects
- Parking decks: Ideal primer coat for asphalt or bitumen overlays on concrete parking decks
- Concrete surfaces requiring overlay: Any concrete surface requiring both curing and preparation for asphalt or bitumen overlays
Specific Applications
- Concrete curing to prevent excessive water evaporation
- Promotion of efficient cement hydration
- Minimization of concrete shrinkage
- Pre-treatment for asphalt overlay placement
- Pre-treatment for bitumen overlay placement
Application Instructions
Surface Preparation
Apply Concure B90 to the concrete as soon as the bleed water has disappeared and the new concrete has hardened sufficiently to not be marked by the application process.
Application Method
- Apply Concure B90 undiluted at a rate of 1 litre per 5 m²
- Best applied by spray application, though brush, roller, or broom application is acceptable
- Ensure complete and even coverage
Enhanced Abrasion Resistance
If the concrete surface is required to be trafficable prior to overlay placement, sand can be placed over the Concure B90 to increase the abrasion resistance of the coating.
Important Limitations and Considerations
Bitumen Surface Compatibility
- Concure B90 does not need to be removed prior to cationic tack coat applications
- Concure B90 can be used as a prime coat and is not required to be removed for asphalt overlays
- Concure B90 is NOT a "tack coat"; where a tack coat is specifically required, it should still be applied separately
Post-Application Considerations
The product is not a tack coat substitute and should be used in conjunction with appropriate overlay application procedures as specified by construction standards.
Storage and Shelf Life
- Storage conditions: Keep in a dry store in original, unopened packs
- Temperature sensitivity: Shelf life may be reduced if stored at high temperatures and/or high humidity conditions
- Handling: Store away from heat sources to maintain product integrity
Cleaning and Equipment Maintenance
Concure B90 should be removed from tools and equipment with water immediately after use, facilitating easy cleanup due to its water-based formulation.
Regulatory and Safety Information
A Safety Data Sheet (SDS) is available from the Fosroc website. Users must read the SDS and Technical Data Sheet carefully prior to use, as application and performance data may change. In emergency situations, contact a local Poisons Information Centre or medical professional.
