Product Intelligence

Concure X90: Water-Based Hydrocarbon Curing Compound

Product Overview

Concure X90 is a specialized water-based hydrocarbon resin curing compound specifically designed for application to freshly laid concrete surfaces. It functions as a moisture-retention barrier that controls water evaporation during the critical curing phase of concrete development, while simultaneously promoting efficient cement hydration and reducing concrete shrinkage.

Product Description

Concure X90 is formulated as a blend of resins and surfactants emulsified in water. This composition creates an impervious film when applied to concrete surfaces that serves two primary functions: preventing excessive water evaporation and promoting efficient cement hydration. The product is manufactured as a milky homogeneous liquid available in multiple color variants to suit different project requirements.

Key Advantages

The product offers several significant benefits for concrete curing applications:

  • Complies with Australian Standards AS3799 - meeting established quality and performance standards
  • Achieves water retention of 90% or greater - efficiently retaining moisture in the concrete substrate
  • Contains no wax - distinguishing it from alternative curing compound formulations
  • Eliminates traditional curing methods - removes the need for ponded water, damp hessian, or polythene sheeting
  • Reduces concrete dusting - protecting the cured surface from degradation
  • Minimizes plastic shrinkage - enhancing concrete durability and structural integrity
  • Water-washable equipment - simplifying cleanup procedures after application

Product Variants and Classifications

Concure X90 is available in three distinct variants, each with specific technical classifications and performance characteristics:

Concure X90 Clear (Class B, Type 1)

  • Non-volatile content: 41.8%
  • Water retention efficiency: 93%

Concure X90 Dye (Class B, Type 1D - available in Red or Blue)

  • Non-volatile content: 33.70%
  • Water retention efficiency: 91%

Concure X90 White (Class B, Type 2 - made-to-order)

  • Non-volatile content: 44.24%
  • Water retention efficiency: 95%

Application Specifications

Coverage Rate

Concure X90 provides a coverage of 5 square meters per litre when applied in a single coat application as required by Australian Standards AS3799.

Application Method

Concure X90 should be applied undiluted at a rate of 5m² per litre. The product is best applied by spray application, however it may also be applied using:

  • Brush application
  • Roller application
  • Broom application

Surface Preparation and Application Timing

Apply Concure X90 to concrete as soon as bleed water has gone and the new concrete has hardened sufficiently so as not to be marked by the application process. This timing ensures optimal absorption and film formation on the concrete surface.

Product Composition and Material Components

Concure X90 contains several key material components:

  • Resins - organic polymeric compounds that form a primary component when blended with surfactants
  • Surfactants - chemical agents that enable emulsification in water and improve the curing compound's effectiveness
  • Water - the carrier medium for the emulsified formulation
  • Wax - notably absent from this formulation, distinguishing it from certain alternative curing compounds

Standards Compliance

Concure X90 complies with multiple recognized standards and specifications:

  • AS3799-1998: Liquid Membrane - with specific classifications for each product variant
  • TfNSW Specification R83 - requirements for transportation applications in New South Wales

Product Limitations and Degradation

UV Breakdown Characteristics

Concure X90 Type 1 and Type 1-D variants will begin to break down after 14 days of UV exposure, indicated by the surface turning a charcoal color. The product will totally oxidise and leave the surface within 45-55 days of application when subject to adequate UV exposure and applied at specified application rates.

Removal Considerations

The white pigment in Concure X90 White (Type 2) affects the oxidization rate of the resin. This variant may take a longer period to break down in sufficient UV exposure and may require mechanical removal. The pigment may also discolour the concrete surface.

Internal or protected areas that do not receive sufficient UV exposure will require mechanical abrasion for removal of the product. The UV-degradable nature of the product reduces the need for surface cleaning in preparation for after-trades; however, high-pressure water will assist in removal of any remaining product.

Storage Requirements

Concure X90 should be stored in cool, dry conditions in original, unopened drums. If stored at high temperature conditions, the shelf life may be reduced. The product should be kept away from sources of heat to maintain optimal performance characteristics.

Cleaning and Equipment Maintenance

Concure X90 should be removed from tools and equipment with water, facilitating easy cleanup after application.

Supply Options

Concure X90 is available in multiple container sizes for varying project requirements, including standard sizes of 20 litre, 205 litre, and 1000 litre (made-to-order) containers in Clear, Red Dye, Blue Dye, and White variants.
