Concure A99: Water-Based Acrylic Concrete Curing Compound
Overview
Concure A99 is a water-based acrylic curing compound formulated to facilitate effective curing of freshly laid concrete surfaces. Manufactured by Fosroc, this product is designed to reduce water evaporation from concrete and promote efficient cement hydration, eliminating the need for traditional wet curing methods.
Product Description
Concure A99 is a milky white stable emulsion that dries to form a transparent film on concrete surfaces. This liquid acrylic emulsion membrane acts as a protective barrier, enabling concrete curing by maintaining moisture content within the freshly laid material. The product's rapid film formation and environmentally friendly water-based formulation make it suitable for a wide range of concrete applications.
Key Features and Advantages
- Water retention efficiency of 90% – complies with AS3799-1998 standards
- Water-based and environmentally friendly formulation
- Eliminates conventional curing methods – no need for damp hessian, sand, polythene sheeting, or ponded water
- Rapid film formation on concrete surfaces
- Will not yellow in sunlight – maintains aesthetic appearance
- Economical application and coverage
- Seals concrete surfaces for protective purposes
- Accepts most acrylic-based after trades without requiring removal
- Complies to AS/NZS 4020:2018 – suitable for use in contact with drinking water at an exposure level of 15,000mm² per litre
Applications
Concure A99 is recommended for:
- Freshly laid concrete surfaces requiring effective curing
- Renders and rendered concrete surfaces
- Structural concrete projects
- Mass concrete applications
- Off-form vertical concrete – can be used as a clear sealer
- Indoor and outdoor concrete applications where conventional wet curing is difficult to maintain
- Exposed areas after grouting operations – recommended for use with Conbextra products including Conbextra HF, Conbextra BB92, and other grout systems

Application Instructions
Surface Preparation
- Ensure the concrete surface is completely free of stains, oils, and form coatings to obtain good adhesion and avoid discoloration or uneven surface effects
- Apply as soon as possible after final trowelling, ideally 1 to 2 hours after concrete placement, just after the disappearance of surface bleed water for maximum water retention
Application Methods
Concure A99 can be applied using multiple techniques:
- Spray application (recommended) – provides even, efficient coverage
- Brush application – suitable when spray equipment is unavailable
- Roller application – using a wide nap roller
- Application on vertical surfaces – immediately after formwork has been removed
Application Technique
- Apply at an even coverage rate of not greater than 5m²/litre
- Multiple thin coats are recommended to avoid milky discoloration when dry
- Coats applied too thickly may remain a milky colour when dry
Important Pre-Application Requirement
Always perform a test trial application for approval before proceeding with the full job.
Limitations and Restrictions
After-Trades Compatibility
- Concure A99 accepts most acrylic-based after trades without requiring removal
- Direct stick timber or parquetry flooring products are NOT recommended for application over Concure A99
- Consultation with Fosroc is recommended prior to application to confirm suitability of specific after trades
- In some instances, mechanical removal (light grind) may be recommended before applying subsequent materials
Metallic-Based Integral Floor Hardeners
- Concure A99 should NOT be used with metallic-based integral floor hardeners due to rust prevention concerns
- Concure CR is recommended as the alternative curing compound for these applications
Application Timing
- Do not brush onto soft, wet concrete or render surfaces that will be disturbed and prevent formation of the curing film
- When used as a combined curing compound/sealer on horizontal concrete, avoid application too soon after trowelling to limit bleed water affecting adhesion
Storage and Handling
Storage Conditions:
- Store in dry conditions between 5°C to 35°C
- Store in original unopened packaging
- Protect from frost during storage
Product Quality Indicators:
Do not use Concure A99 if:
- There are lumps in the product – indicates degradation
- The material has discoloured – indicates degradation
- It has a bacterial (rotting) smell – indicates product deterioration
Cleaning
Concure A99 should be removed from tools and equipment with water immediately after use.
Disposal and Safety
- A Safety Data Sheet (SDS) is available from the Fosroc website and should be read carefully prior to use
- In emergency situations, contact any Poisons Information Centre (phone 13 11 26 within Australia) or a doctor for advice
