Nitobond AR: Polymer Emulsion Curing Membrane

Product Overview

Nitobond AR is a single component acrylic polymer emulsion designed as a curing membrane for most Renderoc repair products. As a ready-to-use product requiring no site mixing, it offers convenience and cost-effectiveness for construction applications.

Chemical Composition

Nitobond AR is formulated as an acrylic polymer emulsion, which provides its dual functionality as both a protective curing membrane and bonding agent. The product has a VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) content of 13.5g/litre, making it relatively low in volatile emissions.

Key Features and Advantages

Single Component System

  • No site mixing required
  • Ready to use straight from container

Practical Benefits

  • Easy to use and apply
  • Cost effective and economical in use
  • Effective curing membrane for most Renderoc repair mortars

Primary Uses

Curing Membrane Applications

Nitobond AR is recommended as a curing membrane for Renderoc repairs. It can also be sprayed onto the surface of finished Guncrete E mortar in a continuous film to ensure proper curing.

Bonding Agent Applications

Beyond its curing function, Nitobond AR serves as a bonding agent for:

  • Patchroc products
  • Paveroc products

Primer Applications

Nitobond AR can be used as an alternative primer for:

  • Cemtop Screed (diluted 1:1 with clean water)
  • Cemtop HD30 (diluted 1:1 with clean water for most applications)
  • Renderoc repair products

When used as a primer for hand installation applications with Cemtop products, Nitobond AR can alternatively be diluted at a 2:1 ratio with water. In these primer applications, Nitobond AR serves as an alternative to Nitoprime 330.

Application Instructions

Surface Preparation

All surfaces should be clean and free from dust and contamination prior to application.

Application Method

The Nitobond AR is sprayed onto the surface of finished mortar in a continuous film. Large areas should be cured as trowelling progresses (0.5m² at a time) without waiting for completion of the entire area.

Supplementary Curing

In fast drying conditions, supplementary curing with polythene sheeting taped down at the edges must be used to ensure effective protection and moisture retention.

In cold conditions, the finished repair must be protected from freezing.

Dilution for Primer Use

For primer applications, Nitobond AR should be diluted with clean water:

  • 1:1 ratio with clean water (recommended for most applications with Cemtop Screed and Cemtop HD30)
  • 2:1 ratio with water (alternative for hand installation applications)

Coverage

Nitobond AR provides coverage of 6 to 8 m²/litre, enabling economical application across various project scales.

Storage and Shelf Life

Nitobond AR should be stored in dry conditions between 5°C to 25°C in original unopened packaging. The product must be protected from frost to maintain its integrity during storage.

Limitations

  • Do not use Nitobond AR when the temperature is below 5°C and falling
  • Do not use Nitobond AR to cure:
    • Renderoc HB40 Plus
    • Renderoc HB70 Plus
    • Renderoc LA55 Plus

For these specific products, use Concure A99 curing compound instead.

Cleaning

All equipment should be washed with clean water immediately after use. Cured material requires mechanical removal.

Safety and Documentation

A Safety Data Sheet (SDS) is available from the Fosroc website and should be read carefully prior to use, as application and performance data may change over time.
