Cemtop HD30: Comprehensive Technical Overview

Product Description

Cemtop HD30 is a durable polymer-modified mortar designed for cementitious waterproof floor topping applications. It is supplied as a two-component system comprising:

• Wet Mix Component: 1.4 litre bottle of liquid (Product Code: FC652022-1.4L)
• Dry Mix Component: 18.6 kilograms of powder

When mixed together, these components produce a versatile coating material suitable for various application methods including trowel, screed, squeegee, broom, and spray applications. The hardened product exhibits a mid-grey concrete colour and achieves full strength after a 28-day curing period.

Product Applications

Cemtop HD30 is particularly suited for:

• Trafficable waterproofing surfaces on internal and external applications
• Re-surfacing rain-damaged concrete pavements
• Application to concrete, concrete blocks, aerated concrete blocks (AAC), and fibre cement substrates
• Horizontal surfaces such as patios, balconies, and driveways
• Areas requiring a cementitious waterproof finish with protective properties

Design Criteria

• Minimum thickness: 2mm to achieve waterproof properties
• Maximum thickness per application: 4mm
• Typical application thickness: 2 to 4mm

Curing Periods and Application Requirements

Cemtop HD30 achieves full strength after 28 days, but allows practical use of treated surfaces at earlier intervals depending on application:

Product Grades

Cemtop HD30 is supplied in two grades:

Fine Grade

• Maximum particle size: 0.5mm
• Primary use: Waterproofing applications and squeegee applications
• Consistency: Thinner finish compared to coarse grades

Coarse Grade

• Maximum particle size: 1mm
• Primary use: Trowel applications and heavy-duty remedial work

Application Temperature and Service Temperature

Critical Limitation: Do not apply at temperatures below 10°C or above 30°C, or in hot windy conditions.

Mixing Requirements

Water Addition by Application Method

• Trowel and Screed Application: 1.5 litres of water added to wet mix
• Spray Gun Application: 1.75 to 2.0 litres of water added to wet mix
• Additional water adjustment: Up to 200ml of additional water may be added during mixing to obtain desired consistency

Mixing Equipment

Suitable mixing equipment includes:

• Heavy duty spiral mixers in 20-litre plastic pails
• Rotary cement mixers with 2-3 cubic foot capacity for larger applications
• 20-litre pails as alternative to cement mixer

Mixing Procedure

1. Thoroughly mix all components for 3 minutes to produce even consistency
2. Allow mixed material to stand for 2 minutes before application
3. Do not mix more than 15 minutes worth of material at one time, as it cannot be finished within this timeframe

Priming Requirements

Nitoprime 330 is the recommended primer for Cemtop HD30:

• Supplied in concentrate form
• Dilution ratio: 1 part primer to 4 parts clean water
• Application to porous surfaces via brush or broom
• Must be allowed to reach "damp dry" or tacky state - do not allow complete drying
• Re-application required if substrate remains porous
• Do not apply primer more than 2-3 minutes ahead of Cemtop HD30 application

Alternative Primer Option: Nitobond AR can be used as an alternative primer for Cemtop HD30

Surface Preparation Requirements

Substrate Conditions

• Must be structurally sound and strong
• Must be clean, sound, and free from loose material
• Contamination must be removed including:
  • Curing compounds
  • Oil and grease
  • Paint
  • Dust debris

Concrete Age Requirement

• New concrete should be at least 14 days old

Large Crack Repair Procedure

1. Create a "V" along crack line using angle grinder
2. Apply Nitoprime 330 to the "V"
3. Fill the "V" with Cemtop HD30 before general application
4. Then proceed with general application to entire area

Application Methods

Spray Application

• Water addition: 1.75-2.0 litres per component mix
• Apply using overlapping circular movements
• Maintain gun at 90° to surface for even application
• Ensure 100mm overlap to previously sprayed sections
• Move gun at constant speed
• Equipment cleaning: Every 30 minutes with running water
• Remove excess Cemtop HD30 from corners/curves with small scraper
• Clean up any over-spray immediately
• For horizontal surfaces: Allow 2-4 hours drying before sweeping excess sand

Trowel and Screed Application

• Water addition: 1.5 litres per component mix
• Apply to both fine and coarse grades
• Suitable for floor coating applications

Squeegee Application

• Generally suitable for fine grade variant
• Produces smooth finish

Equipment Maintenance

• All equipment must be washed every 30 minutes to prevent material buildup
• Gun cleaning required every 30 minutes during application

Shelf Life and Storage

• Shelf life: 3 years from date of manufacture
• Storage conditions: Keep in original, unopened packaging
• Do not use if lumps are present or loss of workability is experienced
• Note: Shelf life may be reduced if stored at high temperatures and/or high humidity

Chemical and Environmental Resistance

• Resistant to many industrial chemicals
• Possible surface discoloration can occur under specific conditions:
  • Oil or petrol spills and splashes
  • Animal or vegetable fats
  • Beverage spills (coffee, cola, etc.)
  • Rain or water spillage on freshly applied surfaces
  • Continued exposure to dusty conditions

Critical Protection Requirement

• Freshly applied Cemtop HD30 must be protected from rain and water for at least 24 hours after application
• If rain is forecast, delay application

Limitations

• Not designed for structural applications
• Not a flexible waterproof membrane - where flexibility is required, consult Fosroc for alternative flexible membrane options
• Do not wash floors/pavements with hot water for 10 days after application
• Do not use caustic cleaning solutions for 14 days after application
• Resistant to dilute acids and chemicals but may experience surface discolouration under certain conditions
• Final properties not achieved until 28 days after application
