Chemical Resistance
Outstanding Resistance to Deleterious Fluids
Earth Shield Type 125CR demonstrates excellent chemical resistance to a comprehensive range of aqueous solutions and industrial fluids, including:
- Acids - Direct acid resistance
- Oils - Including petroleum-based and hydrocarbon products
- Alcohols - Alcohol-based chemical solutions
- Ketones - Ketone compounds
- Glycols - Glycol-based solutions
- Esters - Ester compounds
- Hydrocarbons - Aqueous hydrocarbon mixtures
This broad spectrum of chemical resistance makes the product ideal for environments with exposure to aggressive industrial chemicals and petroleum products.
Typical Applications
Earth Shield Type 125CR is specifically designed for use in the following industrial settings:
- Primary and Secondary Containment - Dual-level containment systems
- Refineries - Petroleum processing facilities
- Chemical Plants - Manufacturing and processing facilities
- Acid Storage - Dedicated acid containment structures
- Mining Facilities - Industrial mining operations
- Fueling Depots - Petroleum product storage and distribution centers
Installation Method
The installation process involves several critical steps:
Surface Preparation
- Concrete must be dry and cured for at least 24 hours
- Steel reinforcing bars must not interfere with proper positioning
- Remove loose particles, dirt, and contamination
Primer Application
- Earth Shield Type 125CR Primer is applied to the dry concrete surface
- Primer is brushed as a 50mm wide continuous coat along the joint
- The primer bonds aggressively to substrates and is unaffected by rain or wet conditions
- Allow primer to become touch dry before waterstop installation
Waterstop Placement
- The waterstop must be centered in and run the full extent of the joint
- Minimum 50mm concrete cover must be maintained to the edges
- Press the strip firmly and continuously in place over the primed area
- Waterstop is placed during the first concrete pour
Mechanical Fastening (When Necessary)
- On vertical, damp, or green concrete, mechanical fastening is required
- Fastening begins 25mm from each coil end
- Proceed with fastening at 250mm on-center spacing along the length
Joint Finishing
- Butt splice joints - Coil ends are cut square and pressed together without separation or air pockets
- Separation paper must be removed immediately prior to the second concrete pour
- Concrete is placed and thoroughly vibrated to obtain impervious, void-free concrete
- Vibrator must not contact the waterstop strip
Key Advantages
- Superior Chemical Resistance - Prevents passage of aqueous hydrocarbons and other deleterious fluids
- Weather Resistant - Unaffected by rain and wet conditions during installation
- Aggressive Bonding - Requires minimal surface preparation with primer-based adhesion
- Environmental Protection - Ideal for structures containing or managing hazardous materials
- Long Service Life - Maintains integrity across specified temperature ranges
