Dekguard Primer - Silane/Siloxane Concrete Primer

Overview

Dekguard Primer is a high-performance silane-siloxane based primer specifically designed for preparing concrete and masonry surfaces prior to the application of solvent-based Dekguard coating systems. It serves as an essential foundational product in the Dekguard protective coating family.

Chemical Composition and Description

Dekguard Primer is based on silane-siloxane chemistry and is supplied as a clear liquid formulation. The primer is formulated to produce a chemically-bound hydrophobic barrier that effectively inhibits the passage of water and water-borne contaminants. This advanced chemistry allows the primer to consolidate and stabilize porous substrates while creating a durable protective interface between the substrate and the topcoat.

Application Instructions

Substrate Preparation

All surfaces should be prepared in accordance with relevant Dekguard coating technical data sheets. Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from contamination.

Application Method

Dekguard Primer should be applied in one or more coats until the recommended application rate of 0.4 litres/m² has been achieved. This is best accomplished using portable spray equipment of the knapsack-type to ensure uniform coverage and consistent application rates.

Critical Application Notes

• Application should not commence if the substrate temperature is below 2°C
• Any areas of glass should be masked during application
• Plants, grass, joint sealants, asphalt, and bitumen-painted areas should be protected
• The primer must be allowed to dry for a minimum of two hours at 20°C before application of the Dekguard coating
• Under no circumstances should the primer be overcoated until the surface is properly dry

Alternative Primer Consideration

For very porous surfaces, Nitoprime DG may be required as an alternative primer, or other special treatment may be necessary. If in doubt about the condition of the substrate, contact Fosroc for technical guidance.

Compatibility and Coating Systems

Dekguard Primer is specifically formulated for use with solvent-based Dekguard coatings, including:

• Dekguard S - High-performance aliphatic acrylic protective coating
• Dekguard Clear - Transparent topcoat option

Important: Dekguard Primer should NOT be used as a primer for water-based Dekguard coatings such as Dekguard Elastic or Dekguard E2000. For water-based systems, Nitoprime DG is the correct primer choice.

Supply and Product Codes

Cleaning and Equipment Maintenance

All tools and equipment should be cleaned immediately after use with Fosroc Solvent 10. Spillages should be absorbed with sand or sawdust and disposed of in accordance with local regulations.

Storage Requirements

• Store in a dry, cool location in original packs away from heat and naked flames
• Keep away from sources of ignition
• Optimal storage conditions preserve product shelf life and performance characteristics
