Concure AV - Aliphatic Alcohol Evaporative Retarder
Concure AV is an aliphatic alcohol evaporative retarder used during the placement of fresh concrete to greatly reduce cracking caused by unfavourable weather conditions. Supplied as a concentrate which is diluted on site with water. Reduces and often eliminates the formation of shrinkage cracks in plastic concrete, gives superior finishing properties during unfavourable weather conditions, maintains a plastic and workable surface, and prevents surfaces crusting. Suitable for all types of flat concrete applications including machine or hand finished and stamped concrete.

Concure AV: Technical Details, Specifications, and Features
Product Overview
Concure AV is an aliphatic alcohol evaporative retarder supplied as a violet-coloured liquid concentrate designed for spray applications onto freshly placed concrete. The product functions to significantly reduce shrinkage cracking caused by unfavourable weather conditions by forming a protective film on the concrete surface that reduces rapid water evaporation.
Key Features and Advantages
Concure AV offers several important benefits for concrete construction:
- Reduces and often eliminates shrinkage cracks in plastic concrete
- Improves finishing properties during unfavourable weather conditions
- Maintains a plastic and workable surface, preventing surface crusting
- Leaves no residue or discolouration on the finished concrete
- Minimises surface efflorescence formation
Product Description
Concure AV in its diluted form is a violet liquid dispersion of high fatty alcohols. The active ingredient—high fatty alcohol compounds—forms a film on freshly placed concrete to reduce rapid water evaporation from the surface. This film-forming mechanism is central to the product's effectiveness in reducing plastic shrinkage cracking.
The product dries clear, leaving no visible residue or discolouration on finished concrete surfaces, making it suitable for both plain and coloured concrete applications.
Physical and Chemical Properties

| Specific Gravity | 1.03 at 25°C |
| VOC Content | 186 g/litre |
Dilution and Application Rates
Concure AV is supplied as a concentrate and must be diluted with clean water before application. The dilution ratio ranges from 4:1 to 9:1 (water to concentrate), depending on weather conditions:
- 4:1 dilution (very dry weather): 1 litre of concentrate yields 5 litres of sprayable material, covering approximately 50m² per application
- 9:1 dilution (humid conditions): 1 litre of concentrate yields 10 litres of sprayable material, covering approximately 100m² per application
Coverage rates may vary depending on concrete surface roughness.
Application Instructions
Preparation and Mixing
- Shake vigorously before and after adding water
- For optimum performance, a dilution rate of 1 part Concure AV to 4 parts water is recommended
- Mix only the amount required on a daily basis; if mixing from the previous day, shake or stir thoroughly before spraying
Application Method
- Use normal hand or power spray equipment to apply as a fine mist
- Ensure complete coverage of the concrete surface in a continuous film
- Apply immediately after initial screeding
- Proceed with normal floating operations after Concure AV has been sprayed
Subsequent Applications
When working in extremely hot or dry conditions, apply additional coats of Concure AV after each subsequent operation, such as:
- Wood floating
- Steel trowelling
Application of any subsequent curing compound should be made as soon as possible after Concure AV has dried and there is no residual bleed water on the concrete surface.
Suitable Applications
Concure AV is useful for all types of flat concrete applications, including:
- Plain concrete surfaces
- Coloured concrete (without discolouration)
- Machine-finished concrete
- Hand-finished concrete
- Stamped concrete surfaces
Limitations
Important Constraints
- Not a curing compound: Concure AV applies only to plastic concrete and must be followed by an approved curing compound after final trowel/finishing for effective concrete curing
- Uniform application required: Must be applied uniformly and immediately after initial screeding to produce a continuous film; the film will not form on very rough surfaces
- Bleed water considerations: In situations with excessive water bleed, delay application until the bleed water has evaporated further; apply when a light film of bleed water remains on the plastic concrete surface
- High humidity effects: In very high humidity conditions, the need for Concure AV may be reduced; however, evaporation time will be longer
- Hot substrates: Will not prevent plastic cracking caused by pouring directly onto hot absorbent sub-grades; in such cases, sub-grades should be wet down or covered with impermeable sheeting
Storage and Shelf Life
- Shelf life: 18 months if kept in a dry store in original, unopened packs
- Storage conditions: Store in dry conditions
- Temperature-dependent: Shelf life may be reduced at high temperatures and/or high humidity conditions
Supply Options
Concure AV is supplied in two package sizes:
| Product | Product Code |
|---|---|
| Concure AV 20 litre | FC644444-20L |
| Concure AV 200 litre | FC644444-200L |
Cleaning and Maintenance
- Spillage or overspray: Wipe off immediately, then rinse with water
- Stain removal: Remove stains using household-type chlorinated bleach
Important Safety Information
A Safety Data Sheet (SDS) is available from the Fosroc website and should be read carefully prior to use, as application or performance data may change over time.
