Scale
165+ data centres interconnected globally, reached via points of presence across the Pacific (Australia), the United States, the United Kingdom and Singapore.
emPOWER Cloud itself is delivered across geographically diverse facilities on Australia's eastern seaboard, connected by a fully meshed MPLS core.
Certification standards
Facilities are certified to Uptime Institute Tier III and Tier IV. The distinction is worth understanding, because providers frequently quote a tier without explaining what it buys:
Tier III — concurrently maintainable. Capacity components and distribution paths can be taken out of service for planned maintenance without disrupting the IT load. In practice: the facility can be maintained without scheduling your outage.
Tier IV — fault tolerant. Everything Tier III provides, plus the capability to sustain an unplanned individual equipment failure without impact to the load. In practice: a component fails and nothing happens to your systems.
Tier ratings describe the facility, not the service running in it. A Tier IV data centre does not make a single-instance application resilient. The tier is a floor, not a guarantee.
Why geographic diversity matters
Multiple facilities separated by real distance is what makes recovery credible rather than theoretical. Two "data centres" in the same building, or on the same power and carrier infrastructure, share failure modes — and share them exactly when it matters.
blueAPACHE's data protection model uses this directly: immutable data protection replicated across multiple data centres. A pathology provider eliminated tape backup entirely in favour of immutable data across three facilities.
The combination is the point. Immutability means an attacker who reaches production cannot alter the backups; geographic separation means a physical event at one site does not reach the copies.
Availability commitments
| Commitment | Level |
|---|---|
| emPOWER Cloud platform uptime | 99.999% |
| Storage uptime (HPE Primera) | 100% |
Infrastructure
emPOWER Cloud is built on HPE infrastructure under a GreenLake consumption model — HPE Primera storage, with Synergy and ProLiant compute. blueAPACHE runs its own business on this platform as Customer Zero, sustaining 30% year-on-year growth on it.
Questions worth asking any provider
- Which specific facilities? "Tier III" without naming the facility is not verifiable.
- How far apart are the replicas? Geographic diversity is a distance question.
- Is the backup copy immutable? Replication alone does not survive ransomware — it replicates the encryption.
- When was recovery last tested, and what did it achieve? The tested figure matters more than the target.
Recovery objectives
Recovery point objectives, recovery time objectives and retention periods are defined per service in the service catalogue and your agreement schedules rather than published here.
Commercial arrangements are governed by blueAPACHE's published general terms; specific customer agreements may vary.
