Our surgical experience and accreditation

Credentials are only useful if you can check them. This page sets out what our practitioners hold, what each credential actually means, and where to verify it independently.

The surgical team

Our Cosmetic Doctors are Dr Gordon Ku (MED0001169203), Dr Kwok Hao Lie (MED0001843582) and Dr Luis Torres Villacorta (MED0002049692). Dr Tim French (MED0001790529) is a phlebologist with AHPRA specialist and general registration.

What these credentials mean

Specialist Plastic Surgeon (FRACS)

A protected title. It requires Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in plastic and reconstructive surgery - the recognised specialist training pathway, followed by specialist registration with AHPRA.

Society memberships

Our plastic surgeons are members of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Australian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.

Worth being precise about this: society membership is a professional association, not a qualification or a regulator. It is meaningful - these societies require specialist plastic surgery credentials for membership - but the registration itself is the thing to check.

Continuing education

Registered medical practitioners in Australia must complete continuing professional development to maintain registration. Our surgeons attend training in Australia and overseas to keep current with surgical developments.

What we are not claiming

We do not describe ourselves as the best, the leading or the most experienced anything. Those claims cannot be substantiated and are not permitted in advertising a regulated health service.

We also do not claim a specialty that does not exist. There is no AHPRA specialty of "cosmetic surgery" - the specialist title in this field is Specialist Plastic Surgeon. A clinic advertising "specialist registration in cosmetic surgery" is describing something that is not a thing. See cosmetic surgery rule changes.

Nor do we publish a "success rate". There is no standardised definition of one in cosmetic surgery, no independent body verifying such figures, and a number without a defined denominator is not information.

Verify it yourself

Every registration number above is searchable on the public register at ahpra.gov.au. It takes under a minute and shows registration type, endorsements and any conditions.

Do this for any practitioner you are considering, here or elsewhere. If a clinic does not publish registration numbers, ask for them - since 1 July 2023 practitioners have been required to state their registration type and number.

Talk to the surgeon directly

Each of our surgeons and doctors will discuss their qualifications, training and experience with the specific procedure you are considering, and will show before and after photographs of their own patients - genuine images, with the caveat that results vary between individuals.

Second opinions

We recommend a second medical opinion before any surgical procedure - ideally from a registered Specialist Plastic Surgeon with knowledge of the specific procedure. That stands whether or not the first opinion came from us.

Since 1 July 2023 a referral is required before a cosmetic surgery consultation, and at least two consultations are required before surgery is booked.
