Patient stories
You will not find patient stories or testimonials on this site. That is deliberate, and it is worth explaining why - because their absence is a good sign about a clinic, not a gap.
Testimonials are prohibited
Under section 133 of the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law, advertising a regulated health service must not use testimonials or purported testimonials about the service or the practitioner.
That covers written patient accounts, quotes, star ratings and reviews used in advertising, video stories, and - since 1 July 2023 - influencer content about cosmetic procedures.
The reason is not squeamishness about praise. It is that one person's outcome tells you almost nothing about yours. Cosmetic results depend on your anatomy, your skin, your age, your healing, your medical history and what you started with. A story from someone whose starting point differed from yours is not evidence about your result - but it is highly persuasive, which is precisely the problem.
Testimonials also select themselves. The person who is delighted writes in. The person whose result disappointed them, or who had a complication, generally does not.
What we show instead
Before and after photographs, in consultation
Photographs of our own patients are shown at your consultation, where cases can be chosen to match your anatomy, your concern and the procedure being proposed - including cases where the result was partial. A website gallery is chosen to impress; a case shown across a desk can be chosen to inform.
See the before and after gallery and how to read before and after images.
Honest limits, stated on every page
Through this site you will find what each procedure cannot do stated as plainly as what it can: scars are permanent, melasma recurs, deep acne scarring improves rather than disappears, fillers are temporary, results vary, and some people are not suitable candidates.
Registration you can verify
Every practitioner is named with their AHPRA registration number, verifiable in a minute at ahpra.gov.au. That is checkable. A story is not.
Prices before you commit
Indicative prices are on the procedure pages, and you get one accurate written quote at consultation.
What to read instead of a story
The pages in this section cover the things a patient story would normally be doing - telling you what it is actually like:
- What a consultation involves
- What recovery actually involves
- Whether a result is realistic for you
- The total cost, including what is not in the quote
- What happens if a result is not what you hoped
- Deciding not to proceed
- Questions worth asking any clinic
If you want to hear from people who have had a procedure
That is a reasonable thing to want. Places to look that are not clinic advertising:
- Your GP, who has seen where their other patients ended up
- A second-opinion consultation with another Specialist Plastic Surgeon
- Independent patient support communities, read with the same scepticism about selection bias
Ask us at consultation whether we can put you in touch with someone who has had the procedure. Whether that is possible depends entirely on another patient volunteering and consenting - we will not arrange it otherwise, and we will not solicit it.
