Healite II LED therapy
Lutronic Healite II is a light-emitting diode (LED) phototherapy system. It delivers light at precise wavelengths through LEDs rather than a laser, and - unlike almost every other treatment on this site - it works without heat and without injuring the skin.
That is the defining feature. Most skin treatments create a controlled injury and rely on the healing response. Healite instead aims to influence cell behaviour directly, which is why it can be used on skin that has just been treated by something else.
How it works
The technique is low-level light therapy (LLLT) - the therapeutic use of light to photomodulate cellular function. Light at specific wavelengths is absorbed by structures within cells and influences their activity.
Healite II uses two wavelengths:
- Blue, 470 nm - superficial, and the wavelength relevant to active acne
- Near infrared, 830 nm - penetrates more deeply, and is the wavelength used for healing, recovery and rejuvenation
Because the treatment is non-thermal, the risk of burning or thermal tissue damage is very low. It is not zero-risk - no treatment is - but the risk profile is different from every laser on this site.
What it is used for
Recovery and healing
This is the main use, and it is why Healite is often booked alongside another procedure rather than on its own:
- Supporting wound and cellular healing after laser treatment or surgery
- Reducing pain, swelling and redness
- Increasing blood flow to a healing wound
- Reducing bruising
- Shortening recovery time
- Reducing post-inflammatory changes during healing
- Supporting more favourable scar formation, including reducing the risk of hypertrophic scarring
It is used before and after cosmetic and plastic surgery, and alongside laser and IPL treatments, skin needling and deep peels.
Acne
The blue wavelength reduces active acne.
Skin rejuvenation
Used as a standalone treatment to support skin quality and cellular function.
Pain and circulation
Also used for pain relief, temporary relief of minor muscle and joint pain, muscle spasm, and to improve local blood circulation.
Results vary between individuals for all of these.
What the treatment is like
The Healite II panel is positioned over the area being treated - face, stomach, or wherever the treatment is directed. Treatment lasts 13 to 22 minutes.
It is painless and non-invasive. The skin feels slightly warm. Most people find it a relaxing appointment, and there is no downtime afterwards.
How many treatments
Patients are typically treated twice a week over four weeks. This applies both to post-surgical recovery and to use as a combination treatment alongside peels, laser or skin needling.
Because the effect is cumulative and each session is gentle, the schedule matters more than the individual session.
What it will not do
Healite supports skin function and healing. It does not remove or tighten loose skin, does not restore lost volume, and does not resurface the skin the way an ablative laser does. It is a supporting treatment, and it is honest to describe it that way rather than as a standalone answer to facial ageing.
Risks
The risk profile is lower than for heat-based treatments, but not nil:
- Temporary redness or warmth
- Headache or eye strain in sensitive people - protective eyewear is used
- Eye injury if protective eyewear is not worn
- Irritation of photosensitive skin
- Little or no response
Tell your practitioner if you take any photosensitising medication, have a photosensitive condition such as lupus or porphyria, are pregnant, or have a history of seizures triggered by flashing light. Any suspicious lesion in the area should be assessed before treatment.
Please read our information on the risks and complications of cosmetic surgery before proceeding.
Cost and booking
Cost depends on the number of sessions and whether Healite is booked alongside another treatment. As at September 2024 and including GST, a skin assessment with a nurse or aesthetician is $50 and is redeemable on products or services; a consultation with a Cosmetic Doctor is $150. Dermal skin treatments start from $130.
