Emirates Business Class Lounge, Dubai Terminal 3 Concourse B
This is Emirates' busiest lounge at Dubai International Airport, which is itself one of the busiest airports in the world. That combination sounds like a warning. In practice it is not. The lounge is large enough, and divided cleverly enough, that parts of it stay genuinely quiet even at peak times — the Moët & Chandon Champagne bar among them.
Emirates operates seven lounges at Dubai, four of them Business Class lounges in Terminal 3 alone, plus three First Class lounges. This is the one most travellers will pass through, and it rewards knowing your way around.
Location and layout
The Concourse B Business Class Lounge is smaller than Emirates' vast Concourse A lounges, which occupy an entire storey of the building. Here, the lounge shares a level with the adjacent First Class Lounge. Smaller is relative: seeing the whole thing still takes a serious walk.
Finding it is easy. There are multiple entry points along Concourse B, and the main reception sits conveniently close to the train that runs across from Concourse A, which makes arriving from that side straightforward.
The floor plan is essentially a long, hollowed-out rectangle. From the centre you can look down onto the departures level below. Ceiling heights vary considerably: some zones are cathedral-like, others deliberately cosier.
Two practical notes. There is no direct boarding from this lounge — you leave and walk to your gate. And the lounge operates around the clock, every day of the year, so it is open and staffed for Emirates' small-hours departures to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.
Seating and atmosphere
The strongest thing about the design is that it does not feel like one cavernous room furnished identically end to end. Walking through, you pass from one space into what feels like a different room without opening a door or turning a corner. Some zones are modern and luxurious, matching Emirates' renovated lounges overseas. Others run to a classical register: lamps, artwork, leather in muted tones.
That variety means you can pick a spot to suit the purpose. Somewhere comfortable for a quick drink, a seat behind reception if you are waiting for someone, a sofa if you want to put your feet up, or a table by the window to eat with a view of the airfield — better by day than at night.
One notable omission: Emirates largely avoids the long working benches with a row of power points that many lounges now build in. There are a couple of long tables, but if you want to plug in and work, you will be hunting rather than picking. Given the sheer amount of seating, it is a solvable problem rather than a serious one.
Small details land well. Fresh red roses sit on most tables, in a lounge in the middle of a desert, which must be close to a full-time job to maintain. There is also a dedicated indoor smoking section at the far end — increasingly rare, and a reflection of the fact that passengers converge here from everywhere.
Food and drink
Catering is organised by cuisine, with each type given its own station and the stations spread across the lounge. The effect is closer to a grand Middle Eastern hotel breakfast buffet than a conventional airline lounge spread, and it suits Emirates' role as an airline carrying passengers from every part of the world through a single multicultural hub.
Local flavours are represented, alongside a great deal else. Hot dishes are plentiful and regularly replenished. There is an entire wing devoted to lighter and fresher food, including a build-your-own salad station and pre-made salads for anyone short on time. A separate dessert section is large enough to count as its own destination. Arabic coffee and dates are available, a touch normally associated with Emirates' First Class cabin.
Two minor criticisms. There is a lot of single-use plastic around the bread, which putting out fewer rolls and topping up more often would address. And while bottled water is there for the taking, remember that you cannot carry it onto Australia-bound flights.
There is a Costa outlet inside the lounge, and you do not pay for it — but it keeps its own hours and may be closed when you want it. If it is, the alternatives are a standard machine brew inside, or paying for a coffee at a shop out in the concourse.
The self-serve bars are the standard arrangement, with a reasonable spread of spirits and wine, and Moët & Chandon Impérial Brut NV on pour.
The Champagne bar
This is the lounge's genuine point of difference, and it is worth going out of your way for. Tucked away inside the Business Class Lounge is a dedicated Moët & Chandon Champagne bar with four options, including a vintage.
| Champagne | Style |
|---|---|
| Moët & Chandon Impérial Brut | Non-vintage; the same pour available at the self-serve stations and on board |
| Moët & Chandon Rosé Impérial | Non-vintage rosé |
| Moët & Chandon Nectar Impérial | Non-vintage demi-sec |
| Moët & Chandon Grand Vintage 2013 | Vintage |
The notable part is that this Champagne list is better than the one in Emirates' First Class lounges. That alone can justify a visit here even if you intend to spend most of your transit somewhere else in the terminal.
A word to the wise: staff will not turn you away if you want to work through all four. And a practical note — the Champagne bar seating area runs warm, even at night. The space directly in front of the bar itself is noticeably cooler.
Amenities
Shower suites are available in more than one location, which is the sensible design choice in a lounge this busy. Attendants appear promptly to reserve a room and supply towels. If one cluster of showers is fully occupied, walking to another group is usually quicker than waiting.
There is a children's playroom, brightly decorated and equipped with ride-on attractions, though not every machine is always in service.
A business centre offers a bank of desktop computers. It is less useful for working on your own laptop, because the power points there are not readily accessible — a hangover from an era when fixed terminals filled these rooms. Given the amount of seating elsewhere, this is a quibble.
Wi-Fi is the standout utility. Speeds measured on this visit comfortably exceeded 100Mbps in both directions, which covers video calls, large cloud backups and downloading a few hours of viewing for the flight ahead without any waiting about.
A spa is also on site, though in the Business Class Lounge treatments are chargeable.
Who can get in
Emirates removes most of the guesswork: if you are eligible, your boarding pass will say 'Business Class Lounge'.
| Route to access | Detail |
|---|---|
| Emirates Business Class | Excludes passengers booked on Business Class Special fares |
| flydubai Business Class | On flights departing Terminal 3 |
| Emirates Skywards Silver | With an onward Emirates flight |
| Emirates Skywards Gold | Travelling on Emirates or flydubai, plus one guest |
| Qantas Gold | Travelling onwards with Emirates on an EK or QF flight number, plus one guest |
| Qantas Club | Before Emirates flights booked on a QF flight number only, plus one guest |
Entry is automated. If you are travelling alone and your access appears on your boarding pass, you scan yourself through the gates — which works even when your flight departs from a different concourse, and which lets higher-tier members through without argument. A reception desk sits nearby for anyone bringing a guest, preferring to deal with a person, or wanting to buy entry without otherwise qualifying. Paid entry is discounted for Skywards members of any tier, and since Skywards is free to join, signing up first is the obvious move.
The verdict
For a lounge carrying this much traffic, it holds up remarkably well. The location is central and convenient for both departing and transiting passengers, the floor plan is large without being exhausting, the food covers an unusually broad range of tastes, and the Champagne bar is better than anything Emirates offers in its First Class lounges at the same airport.
The character of the place is busy and sociable. If that is what you want after a long, quiet flight, this is the right choice. If you want calm and a change of scenery on a longer transit, take the train to Concourse A, where the Business Class Lounge spans an entire floor and is correspondingly more peaceful.
One warning before you settle in too comfortably: there are no boarding calls here, except for significantly disrupted flights. The Emirates app will usually alert you when boarding starts, but Dubai is a big airport and gates can be a long way off. Leave earlier than feels necessary.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Concourse B Business Class Lounge open overnight? Yes. It operates 24 hours a day, every day, which covers Emirates' early-hours departures to Australian cities.
Can I board directly from this lounge? No. You need to leave the lounge and walk to your gate, and there are no boarding calls except during significant disruption.
Does the lounge have showers? Yes, in multiple locations. Attendants reserve a room and provide towels, and moving to a different shower cluster is often faster than queueing.
How do I know if I have access? Your boarding pass will display the words 'Business Class Lounge'. Eligible solo travellers can scan themselves through the automated entry gates.
Is the Champagne really better than in the First Class lounge? At the Moët & Chandon Champagne bar inside this lounge, yes — four Champagnes are offered including a vintage, which is a stronger list than the First Class lounges next door.
Can I get in without flying Emirates Business Class? Possibly. Qualifying Skywards, Qantas Gold and Qantas Club members have routes in under certain conditions, and paid entry can be purchased at the reception desk, discounted for Skywards members.
