TECO · HIGH-POWER MOTOR CONTROL
TSXi-1200V Soft Starter
Our TSXi-1200V brings controlled starting and stopping to high-power 1000V motor systems, with seven listed models from 202 to 1092 A. We designed this three-phase SCR platform for engineered switchboards and motor control centres, drawing on medium-voltage power-stack design principles. It gives you adaptive acceleration, controlled stopping, configurable motor protection and practical diagnostics for demanding industrial applications.
An external bypass contactor and a main switching device are required. Select the starter against the motor’s nameplate current and actual starting duty—not the model number alone. The V12 supply specification is 1200 VAC (+10%/−20%) in our brochure and model sheets; our brochure also states 960–1320 VAC. The manual’s different tolerance typography is identified below.
Built for demanding motor applications
We support mine dewatering and bore pumps, large pumping systems, heavy conveyors, crushers, ball/hammer/roller mills, high-power compressors and ventilation fans in mining and tunnelling. Controlled acceleration can reduce mechanical shock on belts, couplings, impellers and drivetrains; adaptive stopping can help manage pumping-system deceleration. The correct settings depend on the load and installation.
Our website describes the platform as a scaled-down 2.3kV design philosophy. That describes its engineering approach; it is not a 2.3kV operating-voltage rating. The product is intended for engineered installations rather than a standard MCC retrofit. Our current website lists Australia-only availability and a typical 2–3-week lead time; please confirm your configuration and delivery date with us. Higher-current custom designs are an enquiry option, not additional models in the seven-row published range.
Select the model and duty together
The code identifies nominal current, E = external bypass, V12 = 1200 VAC, and the control-supply option. C1 provides separate 110–120 VAC or 220–240 VAC terminal connections; C2 is optional 24 VAC/VDC. The website’s shorthand “110–240 VAC” must not be read as one continuously selectable C1 input range. The linked filenames carry C1, while the selection-form model field omits that suffix.

Each four-page model sheet leaves the application, environment, line voltage, motor size/FLC, starting current and starting duration blank. We have not filled those fields from the model number. Pages 2–4 contain the same shared features, specifications and outline; we show that common material once and keep all seven original links.
IEC current ratings — bypassed operation
These ratings are amperes at 40°C ambient and 1,000 m altitude, from manual PDF page 11. The duty header identifies starting current as a multiple of motor FLC, start time in seconds and off-time in seconds. For example, 3.0-10:1790 means 3.0 × FLC for 10 seconds, with 1,790 seconds off-time. Other duties require selection advice from us.

Inside-delta ratings do not provide the same functions as in-line operation. The manual excludes Adaptive Control, jog, braking and PowerThrough in inside-delta operation, and states that T2 phase loss is not detected during run. Enter the full motor nameplate FLC for parameter 1B; do not replace it with a calculated delta fraction. See the exact replacement behaviours.
NEMA ratings — a different ambient and duty basis
The NEMA table is in-line, bypassed, at 50°C ambient and 1,000 m altitude. Normal duty is 350% for 30 seconds, four starts per hour; heavy duty is 450% for 30 seconds, four starts per hour. The 1000 VAC and 1200 VAC horsepower columns remain separate. These are not the IEC table’s operating conditions.

Starting and stopping to suit the load
| Function | What it offers and what to check |
|---|---|
| Constant current / current ramp | Limit starting current or ramp it from an initial level. Size the starter for the actual start duration and duty. |
| Adaptive Control | Select early, constant or late acceleration/deceleration profiles. It learns the connected motor and remains subject to the current limit. Changing motor FLC, current limit or adaptive gain resets learning; the next cycle uses constant-current starting and timed-voltage stopping. |
| Voltage-ramp start and kickstart | Listed in the model sheets and manual. The manual discusses voltage ramp for differently sized parallel motors or unlinked loads; it is not suitable for high-inertia loads. Kickstart needs appropriate mechanical checks. |
| Timed-voltage ramp / coast stop | A voltage ramp reduces voltage over the selected period; it does not guarantee the shaft has stopped when the ramp ends. |
| Adaptive stop | Helps control load deceleration, particularly for pumping. It cannot stop a motor faster than coast-down and may draw more current. |
| DC brake | Active stopping requires positive mains phase sequence, correct fuse selection and thermal precautions. High torque can produce DOL-level peak current; braking heats the motor faster than the thermal model accounts for. Use the manual’s thermistor/restart-delay requirements. |
| Soft brake | Uses the dedicated control arrangement and original circuit diagram. Do not substitute the DC-brake wiring or settings. |
| Reverse / pump clean | Reversing requires the specified reversing contactor arrangement. Pump clean can run up to five forward/reverse cycles before the programmed start; the first start after a direction change uses constant current. |
| Jog | Digital-input command source only; not continuous duty. Reduced cooling and thermal-model limitations require the manual’s thermistor or restart-delay provisions. Torque settings above 50% may increase shaft vibration. |
| Secondary motor set | Two separate start/stop profiles support different starting conditions or appropriate dual-winding/duty-standby arrangements. Each motor in a duty/standby application requires its own temperature protection; the second set is selected before starting and held for the cycle. |
| Scheduled operation | Clock mode provides daily scheduling; timer mode repeats run/stopped periods while the required start signal remains active. Command source, input state and restart delay still govern operation. |
The manual provides ten Quick Setup application suggestions and a separate 29-row typical-control table. They are starting points for commissioning, not factory-approved settings for every installation. A conveyor stop-time difference exists between those sections. Read Quick Setup, PDF page 28 and typical control methods, PDF pages 41–42 with the nameplate and actual duty.
Inside-delta function limitations
The manual gives the following replacement behaviour; do not assume the advertised function remains available after changing the motor connection.
Unsupported inside delta options and replacement behaviour
| Unsupported option | Replacement behaviour |
|---|---|
| Adaptive control start | The starter performs a constant current start. |
| Adaptive control stop | If parameter 2J Stop Time is set >0 seconds, the starter performs a voltage ramp stop. If parameter 2J is set to 0 seconds the starter performs a coast to stop. |
| Jog | The starter issues a warning with the error message Unsupported option. |
| DC brake | The starter performs a coast to stop. |
| Soft brake | The starter performs a coast to stop. |
| PowerThrough | The starter trips with the error message Lx-Tx Shorted. |
Protection, continuity and diagnostics
Our protection functions cover motor overload, current imbalance, phase loss/sequence, motor connection fault, overcurrent and instantaneous jam current, undercurrent, excess start time, excessive starts, motor thermistor and external trips, voltage/frequency, underpower/overpower and SCR overload. Ground-fault monitoring requires a compatible optional card and CT. Protection functions are for the equipment and motor; they do not replace personnel protection or the system’s safety design.
Responses are configurable for the particular protection function: trip, soft trip, warning/log, log only and, where supported, auto-reset or shunt-trip actions. A logged event does not necessarily stop the motor. Soft trips use the configured stop mode; immediate trips remove power and allow coast-down. Identify and clear the cause before reset or restart. Defaults in the manual are reference values, not a commissioned protection scheme for a 1200V installation.
PowerThrough
PowerThrough can use two-phase control after a shorted SCR on one phase, subject to the manual’s fault/reset sequence. It is in-line only and uses constant-current starting and timed-voltage stopping, not Adaptive Control. The first start attempt after control power is applied trips on Lx–Tx Shorted; cycling control power between starts prevents PowerThrough operation. Protective-device sizing needs specific attention. Talk to us about the fault and continued-service requirements rather than treating this as an automatic repair or permission to bypass protection.
Emergency Run / fire pump wording
Our website lists “Emergency Run / fire pump mode”. The manual states that Emergency mode ignores trips and warnings, disables protections, may compromise motor/starter life and voids the product warranty. It also says the mode is not certified and is not recommended where testing or compliance with specific standards is required. Do not treat the feature name as approval for a life-safety or fire-pump installation. See manual PDF page 40 and confirm the project requirements with us.
See what happened, not just the last trip
The plain-language interface provides eight languages, status LEDs, graphs and monitoring of phase/average current, imbalance, line/average voltage, frequency, motor power, power factor, running hours, starts, last-start details and starter/motor thermal information. High/low-current and motor-temperature flags are distinct from trip settings. Pump pressure, flow, well depth and temperature require the Pump Smart Card and appropriate sensors; ground current requires its compatible option.
The 384-event log records timestamps and event details together with operating context such as current, voltage, frequency, temperature/thermal-model and starter status. Counters support maintenance review. USB supports parameter backup and firmware/update workflows; use FAT32, not NTFS, and the manual’s required file names. The support QR code contains the three most recent trips. Our brochure links the MI-START app for diagnostics and support sharing; availability and the installed software version should be confirmed.
Build the control and communications package
| Option | Product-specific scope |
|---|---|
| Fieldbus | Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, Profibus, Profinet or DeviceNet via optional communications card. Integration supports PLC/SCADA monitoring and control. |
| Pumping Smart Card | Manual lists four digital inputs, three 4–20 mA transducer inputs, one RTD input, one USB-B port and a remote-keypad connector. Detailed accessory instructions are in the separate card manual, not included in this product’s linked source pack. |
| Expansion capacity | Maximum one expansion card per starter in the manual. Do not assume pump and communications cards can be stacked. |
| Ground fault | Manual specifies a 1000:1 or 2000:1 CT, 1 VA or 5 VA, not supplied. Supported versions are listed for Modbus RTU/TCP, EtherNet/IP and Profinet; model-sheet asterisks instead include Profibus. Confirm the exact card before ordering. Website also describes harmonic desensitisation. |
| Remote keypad / HMI | Mounted up to 3 m away per manual, via an expansion card’s keypad connector or dedicated connector card. Start/stop/reset requires the selected command source; removing it can trip when Keypad is selected. |
| PC management | Real-time management of up to 254 starters via Modbus TCP/RTU, programming via the pumping-card USB port, or offline configuration-file transfer, as described in the manual. |
| Finger guards | Model sheets name 202E–1092E. Brochure page 22 instead lists IP20 kits for 0184B–0580B and 0654B–1250B. Do not assume those B-model kits fit these E-model starters; confirm the kit. IP00 remains the base product rating. |
| Other listed accessories | Remote keypad/card combinations, enclosure opening tools, Pump Smart Card and communications/ground-fault/P4K IoT variants are listed in the brochure. Availability and compatibility are configuration-specific. |
The current sources describe a modular, serviceable architecture. The manual nevertheless states that the unit is not user serviceable and is to be serviced by authorised personnel. A maintenance-friendly construction does not change that requirement.
Electrical and environmental reference
The table below retains the manual PDF page 17 values. The model sheets differ in several places; those differences are listed immediately afterwards. In particular, “bypassed or continuous” in the form-designation line does not override the manual’s repeated requirement for an external bypass on this product. Standards and approval labels are published source claims, not independent confirmation of current certification.

The manual states Class 10 overload protection with a 105% FLA trip-current basis at the default 1D/1E/1F settings. Set motor current, power and thermal parameters from the actual motor information; do not assume that changing them retains the same protection characteristics. The model sheets list RCM / IEC 60947-4-2 and CE / EN 60947-4-2; the manual lists CE / EN 60947-4-2. No certificate assessment is provided here.
Dimensions and weight — retain the source edition
Our model sheets and the manual/brochure disagree on the outline and weight. Confirm the supplied unit’s drawing before panel manufacture. The A–E and A–F letter schemes are different and must not be aligned column-for-column.
Manual outline, PDF page 12
All seven models share the dimensions below; the weights are grouped across three, two and two models respectively. The brochure’s page 21 repeats the millimetre dimensions and kilogram weights. Its parenthetical depth value has no printed unit; the manual explicitly labels inches.

Seven model sheets, page 4
All seven sheets print one shared range outline with the following values. These differ from the manual and are retained as an alternative source statement, not a corrected drawing.

Plan the complete installation
Our starter is a component of an engineered motor-control system. Use the complete manual and original circuit diagrams for installation, with qualified electrical personnel. STOP is not electrical isolation. Disconnect and isolate before access; the unit can respond to remote, scheduled or automatic commands. Its protections do not make it short-circuit proof or replace grounding, branch-circuit protection or machinery safety controls.
- Main switching: a main switching device is required in every installation. The manual recommends an AC3 main contactor rated at least to motor FLC, or a suitable shunt-trip circuit breaker. Main-contactor output is 33/34. The shunt mechanism needs the stated supply-side or independent control supply.
- External bypass: a bypass contactor is always required; the manual specifies AC1 at least equal to motor FLC for normal run bypass. A bypass used for DOL starting has a different AC3 duty. Use dedicated bypass terminals and output 03/04. The manual requires 20G External Bypass = Enable for 1200 VAC, despite printing Disable as the default. Main and bypass contactor opening/closing times must not exceed 150 ms; the broader parameter range is not permission to exceed that limit.
- Protection devices: coordinate the upstream devices with available fault current and contactor/SCR ratings. The manual describes HRC fuses for Type 1 and semiconductor fuses for Type 2; the model-sheet labels are reversed. Confirm the exact selection with us. Semiconductor fuses must carry start current and have total clearing I²t below the SCR value; they do not replace branch protection.
- Power-factor correction: use supply-side capacitors with a dedicated contactor, controlled for run. Do not fit them at the starter output or directly switch them with the relay. They must be disconnected during starting/stopping. Capacitive surge arrestors are incompatible; follow the manual’s inspection and removal requirements.
- Control and terminations: complete wiring before mains energisation and apply control before or with mains. Internally powered digital inputs must not receive external voltage and must be separated from mains/motor cabling. Power-bus terminations specify M10 grade 8.8 fasteners, Belleville washers and 28–30 Nm (20.65–22.13 ft-lb); these are not control-terminal torque settings.
- Thermistors: wire the motor thermistor circuit as specified, isolated from earth and other circuits. The manual describes automatic activation on detection, high-resistance trip around 3.6 kΩ and a short-circuit condition below 20 Ω. Thermistor Reset and thermal-model reset are different functions; resetting the thermal model compromises protection and is reserved by the manual for emergency circumstances.

For terminal layout and complete connectivity, use manual PDF pages 19–29 and brochure PDF page 20. The normal reset input is 10/11, start/stop 11/12, programmable input A 13/14 and input B 13/15; configuration changes affect their behaviour. Relay A is changeover, relay B normally open. The bypass output closes after soft start when current falls below 120% of programmed motor FLC and opens at the start of stopping. These labels describe the interface; they do not replace a wiring diagram.
Setup, parameter and troubleshooting reference
Our 100-page manual covers system design, installation, commissioning, command selection, settings backup, logs, keypad feedback, operation, parameters and troubleshooting. The source has printed page numbers two lower than the PDF page numbers; all links here use physical PDF pages.
| Task | Where to look and important boundary |
|---|---|
| Configure the application | Quick Setup, PDF 28; select the correct motor FLC and duty. Suggested application values are adjustable and do not replace engineering selection. |
| Commission or simulate | PDF 29–30. Commissioning is actual motor operation; run simulation requires mains disconnected and the correct Ready state. |
| Save or restore settings | PDF 30–34. Follow file format, confirmation and reset requirements; a reset is not a safe substitute for diagnosing a trip. |
| Inspect a trip or performance trend | PDF 35–38: event log, counters, QR diagnostics, display modes and graphs. Screen examples are illustrative values, not real unit readings. |
| Configure control method | PDF 39–52: commands, schedules, starts/stops, pump clean, reversing, jog, inside delta and secondary motor set. Keep their operating restrictions with the function. |
| Set motor/protection/I/O parameters | PDF 59–81. Defaults and ranges need the actual installation. Warning/log responses can leave the motor running. |
| Configure communications or advanced options | PDF 82–87. DHCP is supported for Modbus TCP and EtherNet/IP, not Profinet. Model Rating 20D is restricted to authorised servicing agents. Smart-card instructions require the separate accessory manual. |
| Troubleshoot | PDF 88–97. Identify and clear the cause first. The source includes generic internal-bypass wording and unresolved sensor/units inconsistencies; these do not override this product’s external-bypass architecture. |
| Dispose of equipment | PDF 18: collect separately as electrical/electronic waste under applicable local requirements. |
Parameter index
The following index preserves all 214 IDs and names in the manual’s six-page summary, without presenting their defaults as recommended settings. Full options, ranges, dependencies and procedures remain in the linked manual. The summary does not list every later detailed group: 40A–40C cover ground-fault protection and 41A–41B cover 4–20 mA calibration. Smart-card entries require the supported card; their presence in the index does not mean a card is supplied.

Ground-fault settings require the correct option: 40A set to zero disables protection, and the manual states that current above 50 A or 1.5 × the selected level overrides the configured delay and trips within one second. For analog calibration, 41A’s 4 mA operation requires the motor stopped; 41B’s 20 mA operation requires it running at full-load current. Follow the full procedures, not these references alone.
Published differences to confirm with us
| Topic | Published statements | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Outline / weight | Model sheets: 447 mm width and 61 kg. Manual/brochure: 440 mm width and 62, 63.5 or 66.5 kg. | Confirm the supplied-unit drawing; dimension-letter schemes differ. |
| Running heat loss | Model sheets: ≤35 W. Manual: bypassed run ≤180 W approx. | Confirm the panel thermal design; do not choose the lower figure silently. |
| Fuse coordination | Model sheets: semiconductor Type 1, HRC Type 2. Manual: semiconductor Type 2, HRC Type 1. | Confirm the coordinated protection design. |
| Frequency tolerance | Model sheets: 50–60 Hz (±5%). Manual: 50–60 Hz (±5 Hz). | Keep the different units visible. |
| Mains voltage | Manual prints 1200 VAC (±10%/-20%); brochure and sheets use +10%/-20%. Cover/brochure give 960–1320 VAC. | Do not treat the manual typography as a new derived rating. |
| Bypass setting / form | 20G default Disable; 1200V instructions require Enable. Form designation includes “or continuous”. | External bypass remains required; default is not commissioning advice. |
| Control supply | Website shorthand 110–240 VAC; manual specifies C1 110–120 or 220–240 VAC on different terminals. | Use the actual C1/C2 connection and tolerance. |
| Ground-fault / guards | Profibus/Profinet compatibility differs by document; brochure guard kits name B models instead of E models. | Confirm the exact accessories; optional is not supplied as standard. |
| Emergency / service | Fire-pump and modular-service marketing needs the manual’s uncertified emergency-mode and authorised-service limits. | No fire-system approval or user-service permission implied. |
| Voltage protection / 6F | 5G/5I defaults are 350/500 V; 6F summary says Soft Trip and Log, detailed section says Trip Starter. | Confirm settings for the actual supply; index defaults are not recommended settings. |
| Zero-speed detection | Input description says open = standstill; fault section says input has not closed. | Resolve before choosing sensor logic or wiring. |
| Analog / diagnostic units | Heatsink output label °C conflicts with percentage description; calibration fraction lacks ×100; CT resistance prints W. | Retain the source ambiguity rather than invent units or arithmetic. |
| Selection forms / accessory manual | Model application fields are blank; separate Pump Smart Card manual is not in the linked pack. | Supply application data and request accessory instructions. |
The complete manual also contains editorial ambiguities in secondary-current-limit references, parameter-save confirmation wording and generic troubleshooting statements. We retain those in the source and audit rather than inventing revised wiring, thresholds or instructions. Send the unit model, serial/rating plate, firmware version and relevant source page when asking us to resolve a discrepancy.
Product documents
- TSXi-1200V user manual — 100 PDF pages: product-specific rating, design, installation, operation, parameter and troubleshooting reference; copyright 2026, not an independently established revision date.
- TECO Soft Starters brochure — 24 PDF pages: TSXi-1200V sections on pages 18–22 and selection guidance on page 23. RSXi and standard TSXi pages describe different products; their ratings, internal-bypass arrangements and dimensions have not been transferred to this guide.
- The seven individual four-page model sheets are linked in the model table above. Each includes the shared specifications and a drawing, not a separately completed application selection.

- Company ISO 9001 document — collected edition
- Company ISO 45001 document — collected edition
Company-level certificates do not establish approval of a selected starter, installation or emergency mode.
We have linked the full documents so installers and maintenance teams can retain procedures, diagrams and their conditions together. The drawings have not been replaced by inferred wiring. No separate Pump Smart Card manual or current certification evidence is supplied by this linked product pack.
