TECO · SMOKE SPILL MOTORS

Te3 Smoke Spill Motors

Our Te3 Smoke Spill motors are designed for dual-purpose ventilation or emergency smoke-spill service, with Class F and Class H insulation options for the specified temperature and duration. Cast iron construction, airstream cooling and a choice of terminal-box arrangements support integration into your fan installation.

We supply these motors for four-pole and slower speeds, single or multispeed. Our smoke-spill catalogue descriptions concern modified motors directly driving axial fans, with IC418 cooling. The selected motor and fan arrangement need to match the required duty and supporting test evidence.

Specify the temperature and duration together

Our product website lists the following three ratings. Each row is a distinct thermal-duty statement, not a rating that applies automatically to every power, frame or winding configuration.

Website ratingTime (minutes)Temperature (°C)Insulation class
1120200°CF
230300°CH
3120300°CH

Use the temperature, duration and insulation class when specifying your motor. Our linked editions use different rating numbers: the 2015 catalogue calls 30 minutes at 300°C “Rating 2”; the May 2026 catalogue calls 120 minutes at 300°C “Rating 2”. The website calls the latter “Rating 3”. Please have us confirm the precise duty and supporting test evidence for your selected motor rather than ordering by the rating number alone.

Both catalogues describe testing with TECO Variable Speed Drives to AS4429-1999, for dual-purpose or emergency use. The 2015 smoke-spill section refers to AS1668.1:1998; the May 2026 section refers to AS1668.1-2015. These are the editions and test-method references in our published documents. The linked pack does not contain an individual motor's smoke-spill test report or a model-by-model approval matrix.

Construction and normal operation

Our cast iron motor family uses machined frames and endshields, a high-conductivity die-cast aluminium rotor cage and a high-tensile steel shaft. The shared catalogue winding description specifies insulated electromagnetic steel laminations and resin-impregnated, double-enamelled copper wire, with tropicalisation. The published product finish is Teal T63; the catalogues describe primed cast iron and two matt acrylic finish coats, with electro-zinc-plated hardware.

The standard catalogue terminal box uses neoprene gaskets and can rotate in 90° steps through 360° for cable entry. Its IP66 terminal-box description does not change the IP55 motor rating stated on this smoke-spill product page. We also offer the product's remote terminal-box arrangement with flying leads; please specify which arrangement your installation needs.

For ordinary service, the shared catalogues describe −20°C to +40°C ambient, altitude up to 1,000 metres, Class B temperature rise and routine motor testing. These normal-service descriptions are separate from the short-duration smoke-spill ratings above. S1 does not mean continuous operation at an emergency temperature.

The catalogues' normal-torque Design N and starting-method guidance concerns the general motor family. Please confirm starting, switching, protection and emergency operation for the selected fan and motor. A general-family construction detail or an optional modification does not itself establish the smoke-spill rating.

Bearings, winding protection and drives

The May 2026 family bearing guide lists ball bearings at both ends, greased for life for D80–D160 and grease-relief arrangements for D180–D400. The 2015 guide lists roller-bearing alternatives on some larger four-pole/slower frames. The smoke-spill descriptions specifically concern direct-driven axial fans; generic belt-drive statements elsewhere in the older catalogue are not evidence for a belt-driven smoke-spill installation.

Both editions describe standard PTC thermistors on single-speed frames D160 and larger. The 2015 catalogue separately says thermistors are optional on all two-speed motors. Confirm protection requirements for the actual smoke-spill configuration and control system; we do not transfer the single-speed statement to every multispeed motor.

The published smoke-spill testing statement names TECO VSDs. General catalogue VSD guidance is conditional on load, speed, torque and correct installation. It does not establish that any drive, switching arrangement or frequency range is covered by the smoke-spill test. Use the supplied connection diagram and ask us for the relevant motor/drive test evidence.

Configure the motor for your installation

We can discuss other supplies, terminal arrangements, mounting choices and the following family catalogue options. Each option needs confirmation for the chosen smoke-spill build and test scope.

Requirement Options described in the linked catalogues
Moisture and monitoring Anti-condensation heaters; thermistors; winding and/or bearing RTDs; auxiliary terminal boxes for heater, thermistor and RTD terminations
Mechanical arrangement Double or non-standard shaft extensions; fail-safe electromechanical brake; encoder/tacho
Electrical and bearing protection Insulated bearing, EDM protection where applicable, and the catalogue-listed rotor brush option
Finish and hardware Special paint systems or colours; stainless steel fasteners
Enclosure IP66 in the May 2026 options; IP56, IP65 and IP66 in the 2015 options. Confirm the selected motor's protection
Other family duties Cooling-tower applications and forced cooling IC416 are listed as family options. They are not substitutes for the IC418 smoke-spill arrangement without confirmation

The standard Te3 and Severe Duty construction categories in the catalogues are separate from the website's three smoke-spill thermal ratings. Selecting Class H insulation alone does not establish a complete Severe Duty build or a particular emergency-duration rating.

IC418 airstream-rated frame references

Both linked catalogues contain the same 17-row IC418 foot-mount schedule for frames 80–250. The table below keeps its 15 rows with four-, six- or eight-pole outputs, removing the two-pole output column and the two rows that contain only two-pole outputs. The identical edition tables are shown once, with both source references retained.

These are shared IC418 family outline references, not a smoke-spill certification or model-selection matrix. Output/frame entries do not assign a 30- or 120-minute rating. Confirm the modified motor's outline, including its terminal/leads arrangement. The schedule does not cover the larger D280 or D315 frames named elsewhere on this product.

The lettered dimensions E, L and LD refer to the original drawing, which also identifies the winding outleads. The schedule does not print a general dimension-unit legend; values are retained without adding an assumed unit. Dashes and slash-separated output alternatives retain their printed meanings and are not expanded into invented model numbers.

Source notes say dimensional data may change and lifting facilities are provided on frame D100 and larger. Obtain the actual outline and lifting details for the selected motor. The May 2026 IC418 page still directs readers to page 11 for tolerances, although its tolerance schedule is on page 19; the 2015 tolerance schedule is on page 11. 2015 tolerances · May 2026 tolerances.

For a multispeed selection, the 2015 catalogue also warns of different two-speed dimensions in frames 80–132. We have not filled that gap using a single-speed drawing. The generic IC411 foot/flange, C-face, bearing and performance tables remain in the complete catalogues, but are not presented as confirmed smoke-spill configurations here.

Published differences to confirm with us

Documents supporting this guide

Our website's manual section currently says “Currently Being Designed.” Its drawing and datasheet sections say none are currently available, and there is no software download. The two catalogues contain general performance and outline tables, but no individual smoke-spill model schedule connecting each kW/frame/winding combination to a thermal rating. We have kept the original sources accessible rather than treating ordinary catalogue rows as approved smoke-spill variants.
