AFJN MAXe3 Mining Motors
Our AFJN motors combine a compact cast-iron design with the protection and monitoring features needed for demanding industrial and mining applications. We bring higher power density, easier handling and practical installation features together in our three-phase squirrel-cage induction motor range.
Our AFJN brochure details 250, 280 and 315 kW, 4-pole, 415 V, 50 Hz, foot-mounted motors in frame 315LL. Start with that configuration below, then speak with our team about your application and required supply.
Choose the configuration for your application
| Item | Configuration detailed in our AFJN brochure |
|---|---|
| Outputs | 250 / 280 / 315 kW |
| Poles | 4P |
| Supply | 415 V, three-phase, 50 Hz |
| Frame | 315LL |
| Mounting | Foot mount |
| Construction | Cast iron; squirrel-cage induction motor |
| Cooling | Totally enclosed fan cooled (TEFC) |
| Enclosure | IP66 |
Our broader website description introduces 160–800 kW and supplies from 400 V / 50 Hz to 440 V / 60 Hz, with Class F insulation and multiple enclosure and cooling options. Those range statements do not establish every available power/supply combination. The dimensions below belong to the brochure's 250 / 280 / 315 kW configuration; we have not extended them to the whole range.
The brochure uses one shared output entry, “250/280/315”, rather than three separate model codes. We retain that shared entry so the table does not imply individually documented model numbers or separate performance sheets.
Compact power, practical protection
More power in a compact footprint. We describe a 15% increase in power density and a 20% reduction in weight compared with earlier models. These are comparative design claims; the brochure does not identify the comparator, test basis or individual motor weights. The compact, lighter design supports space-efficient installation and easier handling.
Built for demanding environments. Our brochure configuration has an IP66 enclosure, full internal tropical-proof treatment and coal shield/shedder covers fitted as standard. These features help protect the motor in abrasive and exposed environments, including coal-industry applications. Cast-iron construction supports durability and consistent operation.
Thermal monitoring. Winding thermistors are fitted and terminated in a separate auxiliary terminal box, with an alarm and trip set installed. Provision for bearing RTDs is standard; provision does not mean that the RTDs themselves are fitted. No thermistor alarm or trip temperature is given in this brochure.
Flexible terminal-box arrangement. The oversized main terminal box is universally mounted and can be relocated to the other side. This flexibility helps with installation and maintenance. Our brochure describes interchangeability with other 315LL-framed motors in service; compare the actual installation, shaft and mounting requirements before selecting a replacement.
Vibration monitoring. The brochure specifies our VB-310 SCB vibration sensor for real-time monitoring and proactive maintenance. It also spells the identifier “VB310SCB”. Our website instead refers to a VB-800 wireless vibration/temperature sensor with an AG-800 smart gateway. Please confirm the supplied monitoring package with us; these descriptions are not proof that both packages are included.
Variable-speed operation. An insulated bearing and an earth brush are standard in the brochure configuration for Variable Voltage Variable Frequency (VVVF) drive compatibility. The brochure does not identify which bearing is insulated or give a speed range, drive limit or derating schedule. We can help confirm the motor and drive combination for your duty.
Efficiency and operating costs. Electrical and thermal optimisation is intended to reduce energy use and operating costs, while monitoring supports earlier intervention and reduced downtime. Actual savings depend on the duty and installation. The supplied AFJN brochure does not give numerical efficiency, current, speed, torque or power-factor data, or an IE efficiency class; request the selected motor's performance data from our team.
315LL dimensions and bearings
The schedule below preserves the values printed on page 2 of our brochure. It applies to the shared 250/280/315 kW · 4P · 315LL entry. Lettered linear dimensions are in millimetres; thread and bearing identifiers retain their printed form.

The drawing also labels THERMISTOR T-BOX (M20X1.5), 6-Ø28 HOLE and DH TAP. These are drawing-local callouts. Use the original drawing on brochure page 2 to locate them and interpret the dimension letters. This table does not reconstruct geometry, tolerances or electrical connections. Ask us for the approved outline for your selected motor before installation.
Points to confirm with our team
- Monitoring package: the brochure names VB-310 SCB; the website names VB-800 with AG-800. Confirm the included sensor and gateway.
- Range versus documented configuration: the website's 160–800 kW range and supply options are broader than the brochure's three outputs at 415 V / 50 Hz. The shared 315LL schedule is not a dimension schedule for every motor in that wider range.
- Selection and replacement details: confirm the selected motor's ratings, current, efficiency, weight, duty, drive limits and installation requirements. The brochure's interchangeability statement does not replace a check against your existing installation.
- Monitoring provisions: confirm whether bearing RTDs are required, the thermistor settings and which bearing is insulated. These details are not specified in the two-page brochure.
Documents and support
Download our AFJN brochure for the features on page 1 and dimensioned outline, bearing schedule and application benefits on page 2. The product page links this same brochure from both its download button and catalogue section.
The collected AFJN product pack and the current product-page links contain no separately linked AFJN datasheet, drawing archive or operating manual. This does not mean those documents do not exist. Contact our team for the selected motor's datasheet, approved drawing and installation, operation and maintenance instructions. Please include your output, supply, duty, mounting and drive requirements.
