Occupational therapy starts with everyday life.

NDIS occupational therapy focuses on the everyday activities you need and want to do. An occupational therapist looks at your abilities, routines and environment, then works with you on practical strategies, skill-building, equipment or environmental changes that can make daily life safer and more manageable.

Recommendations are connected to real tasks, environments and goals—not a one-size-fits-all checklist.

What does an NDIS occupational therapist do?

An occupational therapist assesses how disability affects everyday activities and participation. They may support skill-building, routines, home safety, assistive technology, environmental changes and functional reporting, depending on the participant’s goals and assessed needs.

What is a functional capacity assessment?

A functional capacity assessment describes how a person manages everyday activities and the supports that may help. It can include interviews, observation, standardised tools and information from the participant and their support network.

Can an occupational therapist recommend assistive technology or home modifications?

Yes, when clinically appropriate. The therapist assesses the person, task and environment, considers suitable options and documents recommendations. NDIS approval and funding are separate decisions.

Can appointments happen at home?

Often, yes. Seeing the environment where activities happen can help make recommendations practical. Availability and the most suitable setting are confirmed before support begins.

Do I need a referral?

You can contact Bloom directly. If you have an NDIS plan, our team can also work with your support coordinator, plan manager or other treating professionals.

Where are appointments held?

We primarily support people at home and in the community, with telehealth available when clinically appropriate. Clinic appointments may be available case by case.

Can Bloom work with my existing support team?

Yes. With your consent, we can collaborate with family, support workers, educators and other clinicians so strategies are practical and consistent.

How do I know whether my NDIS plan can fund this service?
Funding depends on whether your support relates to your disability goals and approved budget. If you have Improved Daily Living funding it is more than likely you will be able to access Occupational Therapy. Our team can discuss your individual needs. iOfficial guidanceCheck current government information before making funding or service decisions.NDIS participant information↗ Explore NDIS support
