Emotional wellbeing matters at every age.

Ageing can bring meaningful growth as well as loss, health changes, caring responsibilities, reduced independence or changes in identity. A psychologist or counsellor provides a confidential, respectful space to understand what is happening and develop strategies that fit your life and values.

You do not need to be in crisis—or know exactly what to call the problem—to ask for support. What Aged Care Psychology & Counselling actually is

Clinical expertise connected to the life you want to live.

We look at your strengths, health, environment, routines and priorities. From there, we agree on practical support that is relevant, understandable and able to be reviewed.

1

Feel more able to cope with change

Assessment helps identify the root cause of emotional issues and recommends practical strategies to improve health.

2

Manage worry, low mood or distress

Recommendations for managing worry, low mood or distress are designed to be practical for the older person, family, carers and care team.

3

Reconnect with meaningful activities

Support builds toward providing suggestion for meaningful activities through utilising relevant skills.

4

Communicate needs and strengthen relationships

Progress toward communicating needs and helping to strengthen relationships to help with comfort and quality of life.

Could this support help?

Start with what has changed—or what you want to keep doing.

Common questions

Answers before you begin.

If you are unsure whether aged care psychology & counselling is the right service, tell us what is happening. You do not need to diagnose the solution yourself.

Ask us a question

Is feeling low just a normal part of ageing?

Persistent low mood, loss of interest or distress should not be dismissed as ageing. A GP can help rule out medical contributors and discuss appropriate support.

Can sessions take place at home?

Yes. Bloom primarily works in homes and communities. Telehealth may also be suitable depending on preference, privacy, technology and clinical need.

Can family attend a session?

Yes, with the older person’s consent and when it supports the purpose of the appointment. Individual time can also be discussed.

What if memory or communication is changing?

The clinician can discuss ways to make sessions accessible and may collaborate with family or other professionals with consent. Suitability is considered individually.

Is the service confidential?

Psychologists and counsellors explain privacy and its legal and safety limits before or during the first appointment.

What if someone is in immediate danger?

Bloom is not a crisis service. Call 000 if there is immediate danger. For urgent mental health support, contact Lifeline on 13 11 14 or the relevant local crisis service.
