An occupational therapist looks at the whole picture: what you want or need to do, your abilities, the way the task is performed and the environment around you. They then recommend practical strategies, equipment or changes that support safety, independence and choice.
The goal is not to change your home or routine unnecessarily—it is to help them work better for you. What Aged Care Occupational Therapy actually isClinical expertise connected to the life you want to live.
We look at your strengths, health, environment, routines and priorities. From there, we agree on practical support that is relevant, understandable and able to be reviewed.
1Complete daily activities more safely
Assessment considers how to complete daily activities more safely around the home environment, including review routines and the support already in place.
2Make the home easier to move around

3Choose suitable equipment with confidence
Support assists in choosing suitable equipment with confidence, with education being provided where appropriate.

Common questionsAnswers before you begin.
If you are unsure whether aged care occupational therapy is the right service, tell us what is happening. You do not need to diagnose the solution yourself.
What happens during a home assessment? The occupational therapist discusses your goals, observes relevant tasks and looks at the environment with your permission. They explain possible strategies and recommendations before documenting next steps.
Will the therapist make me change my home? No. Recommendations should be discussed with you and reflect your goals, preferences, safety and assessed needs. You remain involved in decisions.
Can an OT recommend equipment?Yes. Depending on the request, an OT may assess, trial and recommend equipment. Purchasing or funding approval is a separate decision.
Can an OT recommend home modifications?Yes, where the modification relates to assessed function and safety. Complex work may require builders, suppliers or other professionals.
Can OT help after a hospital stay?OT may help plan a safer return home, review daily activities and recommend strategies or equipment. Timing and scope depend on the person’s situation.
Does Bloom install equipment or modifications?Bloom clinicians assess and recommend within their scope. Supply, installation and funding arrangements must be confirmed separately.
