All courses: the search, and what the course codes mean
This is our upcoming course search. You can filter by course, by date range, or by course ID, and the results list the sessions that are open for booking. For the results view, see upcoming course schedule; for the full course catalogue with descriptions, see all courses.
The search uses short course codes rather than full titles, which is efficient once you know them and opaque until you do. This page is the key.
The course-code key
These are the codes in the course selector, with what each one is.
| Code | Course as listed | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| B&B | Bar & Barista | Our combined bar and barista package — bartending and coffee in one program |
| BCA | Barista & Coffee Art | Barista skills with latte art |
| BCM | Barista Coffee Masterclass | The longer barista program, run over two days |
| BCS | Barista Coffee Skills | The core barista short course |
| BCSA | Barista Coffee Skills (accredited) | Barista skills delivered as nationally recognised training, producing a statement of attainment |
| BAR | Bartending | Our bartending short course |
| FSS | Food Safety Supervisor (Level 1 & 2) | Food safety supervision, the role a food business must nominate |
| FSS2 | Food Handling (Level 2) | Food handling, for people working with food who are not the nominated supervisor |
| RSAc | Responsible Service of Alcohol (classroom) | RSA delivered face to face in a classroom |
| RSAsp | Responsible Service of Alcohol (self-paced) | RSA delivered self-paced |
| RSAv | Responsible Service of Alcohol (virtual) | RSA delivered live online |
| RSAv | Responsible Service of Alcohol (virtual accred) | The accredited virtual RSA variant |
| SSS | Student Support | Student support sessions — see student support sessions |
Two things to notice in that table, because they will cost you time otherwise.
RSAv appears twice. The selector lists both "Responsible Service of Alcohol (virtual)" and "Responsible Service of Alcohol (virtual accred)" against the code RSAv. They are not the same product, and if you are booking RSA to satisfy a licensing requirement the distinction matters — pick by the full label in the selector, not by the code, and if you are at all unsure, call us on 03 9654 1554 before you pay.
"Accredited" is a real distinction, not marketing. A course delivered as nationally recognised training produces a VET statement of attainment against a unit of competency, carrying the Nationally Recognised Training logo and recorded against your Unique Student Identifier. A non-accredited short course produces a certificate of our own. Both can be the right choice — a café owner wanting staff to pour better coffee does not need a statement of attainment — but only one of them appears on your national VET transcript and only one of them can be credited towards a qualification later.
Accredited or not: how to tell, and why it matters
Ask one question: does this course produce a statement of attainment against a unit of competency?
If yes, then:
- the course is assessed against a nationally defined unit, not against our own syllabus;
- you need a Unique Student Identifier before we can issue the document — under section 53 of the Student Identifiers Act 2014 an RTO must not issue a VET qualification or statement of attainment unless the individual has been assigned one. See USI;
- the statement must carry our name, registration code and logo, the full title and national code of each unit, the NRT logo, an authorised signature and our seal, corporate identifier or unique watermark;
- it will appear on your authenticated VET transcript, generated from your USI account; and
- it can be used as evidence for a credit transfer into a qualification later.
If no, the course still teaches the skill, and for many purposes that is exactly what is wanted — but none of the five points above apply.
One more distinction that catches people: for licensing-linked training, the statement of attainment and the certificate a regulator issues itself are two different records. In Victoria, Liquor Control Victoria treats the RSA statement of attainment and its own RSA certificate as distinct records. Keep both.
Licensing: the course is not the licence
The short courses above sit behind occupational requirements set by state and territory regulators, not by the training package. A qualification's own documentation may say that no occupational licensing requirements apply to it — that is a statement about the qualification, not about the job.
So three things vary by jurisdiction and must be checked for the state you will actually work in:
- Which certificate is accepted. Requirements for alcohol service and for food safety supervision are set state by state.
- Whether it expires. Some jurisdictions require refresher training or a current certificate; the underlying AQF record does not expire, but the licence built on top of it may.
- Whether the delivery mode is accepted. Some regulators restrict online or self-paced delivery for licensing purposes. This is the single most common reason a cheap online RSA turns out not to count.
Our RSA course pages are organised by jurisdiction for exactly that reason: RSA, Melbourne, Victoria, Sydney, Brisbane, Queensland, Perth and online. Food safety sits at food safety supervisor and food handling.
Beyond the short courses
The search above covers scheduled short courses. Our scope of registration is considerably wider than that and includes full AQF qualifications in hospitality, cookery, kitchen management, event management, business and leadership, and community services. Those run on different intakes and are not all in this schedule.
Qualifications we are registered to deliver and assess include SIT20322 Certificate II in Hospitality, SIT20421 Certificate II in Cookery, SIT30622 Certificate III in Hospitality, SIT30722 Certificate III in Hospitality (Restaurant Front of House), SIT30821 Certificate III in Commercial Cookery, SIT40422 Certificate IV in Hospitality, SIT40521 Certificate IV in Kitchen Management, SIT50322 Diploma of Event Management and SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management, alongside business qualifications including BSB40520 Certificate IV in Leadership and Management.
For the authoritative list — every qualification, skill set and unit on our scope, whether each is current, and the extent at which we hold it — check training.gov.au under RTO 3722. That record is the source of truth and it is updated independently of our website.
How to use the search
- Select Course narrows to one product. Use the full label rather than the code where two labels share a code.
- Date Range filters by start date. Barista and RSA sessions typically run on weekday mornings with several intakes a month.
- Course ID finds one specific session, which is the fastest route if you have a session reference from us or from a confirmation email.
If the session you want is not showing, it may be full or not yet released. Call 03 9654 1554 or use course enquiry rather than assuming it is not running.
Before you book
Whatever the course length, you are entitled to be told, before you enrol or before any fee is payable: what training we will provide, all fees costs and charges including payment terms and any refund policy, and any obligations imposed on you. Separately, the course code and title, duration, delivery mode and location, start dates, assessment requirements, whether any licensing requirements apply, and the support services available must all be easily accessible.
For a short course this takes about two minutes to read and occasionally saves the whole fee. See course enrolment for the process, funded enrolment if you may be eligible for a subsidised place, and fee-for-service enrolment otherwise.
Questions and answers
What does B&B stand for?
Bar & Barista — our combined package covering bartending and coffee in one program, rather than two separate bookings.
What is the difference between BCS and BCSA?
Both are Barista Coffee Skills. BCSA is the accredited version, delivered as nationally recognised training and producing a VET statement of attainment against a unit of competency. BCS is the non-accredited short course. Pick BCSA if you need the credential on your national transcript or want it to count towards a qualification later.
What is the difference between BCS, BCA and BCM?
BCS Barista Coffee Skills is the core short course. BCA Barista & Coffee Art adds latte art. BCM Barista Coffee Masterclass is the longer program run over two days. See barista coffee course, latte art and barista master class.
Why does RSAv appear twice in the course list?
The selector lists both "Responsible Service of Alcohol (virtual)" and "Responsible Service of Alcohol (virtual accred)" under the same code. They are different products. Choose by the full label, and if you are booking RSA for a licensing requirement, call us to confirm which one meets the requirement in your state.
What is the difference between FSS and FSS2?
FSS is Food Safety Supervisor, covering Level 1 and 2 — the role a food business must nominate. FSS2 is Food Handling at Level 2, for people working with food who are not the nominated supervisor. See food safety supervisor and food handling course.
Does an accredited course expire?
The AQF record does not. A licence or regulatory requirement built on top of the unit may — some jurisdictions require refresher training or a current certificate. Check the requirement for the state you will be working in.
Do I need a USI for a short course?
For an accredited short course, yes. We cannot issue a VET statement of attainment unless you have been assigned a Student Identifier. For a non-accredited course there is no statement of attainment, so no USI is needed. It is free either way — see USI.
Will my certificate count in my state?
For licensing purposes, that depends on the state and sometimes on the delivery mode. Requirements for alcohol service and food safety supervision are set by state and territory regulators, and some restrict online or self-paced delivery for licensing. Use our jurisdiction-specific pages and confirm with us before booking.
Is RSA available online?
We deliver RSA in classroom, self-paced and virtual formats. Whether a particular format satisfies a licensing requirement is a matter for the regulator in your state, not for us, and that is the question to settle first. See RSA online and RSA.
What is SSS?
Student Support — our support sessions for current students, rather than a course you enrol in for a credential. See student support sessions and student support booking.
The session I want is not listed. Is it cancelled?
Not necessarily. It may be full or not yet released. Call 03 9654 1554 or use course enquiry.
Can I book a qualification through this search?
Usually not. This schedule covers scheduled short courses. Full AQF qualifications run on different intakes — see all courses and workplace training, or contact us.
Can I get a short course subsidised?
Sometimes, and the limits are real: subsidised commencements are capped per calendar year, and short skill sets reach the cap quickly. See funded enrolment before you book several in one year.
Where is the authoritative list of what CHT can deliver?
training.gov.au under RTO 3722. That record shows every qualification, skill set and unit on our scope, whether each is current, and the extent at which we hold it. For international students, cricos.education.gov.au under provider code 04242E.

The course codes and labels above are reproduced from our own course selector. Certification, student identifier and pre-enrolment information requirements are drawn from the Compliance Requirements for NVR Registered Training Organisations (F2025L00355), the Outcome Standards for Registered Training Organisations (F2025L00354) and the Student Identifiers Act 2014. Licensing requirements for alcohol service and food safety are set by state and territory regulators and differ by jurisdiction and sometimes by delivery mode. Scheduled sessions, fees and availability change — confirm with us before booking.
Why does the course search use short codes?
Because it is efficient once you know them and opaque until you do. The search lets you filter by course, by date range or by course ID, and this page is the key to what each code means.
What do the barista codes stand for?
BCS is Barista Coffee Skills, the core barista short course. BCSA is Barista Coffee Skills (accredited), delivered as nationally recognised training and producing a statement of attainment. BCM is Barista Coffee Masterclass, the longer program run over two days. BCA is Barista & Coffee Art, barista skills with latte art.
What are the bar codes?
BAR is the bartending short course, and B&B is Bar & Barista, the combined package covering bartending and coffee in one program.
What is the difference between FSS and FSS2?
FSS is Food Safety Supervisor (Level 1 & 2), the role a food business must nominate. FSS2 is Food Handling (Level 2), for people working with food who are not the nominated supervisor.
What are the RSA delivery codes?
RSAc is Responsible Service of Alcohol delivered face to face in a classroom, RSAsp is self-paced, and RSAv is virtual, meaning live online.
Why does RSAv appear twice in the selector?
Because the selector lists both "Responsible Service of Alcohol (virtual)" and "Responsible Service of Alcohol (virtual accred)" against the same code RSAv. They are not the same product.
How do I avoid booking the wrong RSA?
If you are booking RSA to satisfy a licensing requirement the distinction matters, so pick by the full label in the selector rather than by the code. If you are at all unsure, call 03 9654 1554 before you pay.
Is "accredited" just a marketing word?
No, it is a real distinction. A course delivered as nationally recognised training produces a VET statement of attainment against a unit of competency, carrying the Nationally Recognised Training logo and recorded against your Unique Student Identifier. A non-accredited short course produces a certificate of CHT's own.
Is non-accredited training therefore the wrong choice?
Not necessarily. Both can be the right choice — a cafe owner wanting staff to pour better coffee does not need a statement of attainment. But only one of them appears on your national VET transcript and only one can be credited towards a qualification later.
What single question tells me which I am buying?
Does this course produce a statement of attainment against a unit of competency? If yes, the course is assessed against a nationally defined unit rather than against CHT's own syllabus.
What follows if the course is accredited?
You need a Unique Student Identifier before the document can be issued, because under section 53 of the Student Identifiers Act 2014 an RTO must not issue a VET qualification or statement of attainment unless the individual has been assigned one. The statement must also carry CHT's name, registration code and logo, and the full title of the unit. See USI (/usi/).
What is SSS in the selector?
Student Support, meaning student support sessions rather than a course. See student support sessions (/student-support-sessions/).
