Upcoming course schedule: how to read a listing before you book
This is the results view of our course search. Each row is one scheduled session, with four columns:
| Column | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Name | The course product, for example Barista Coffee Skills |
| Start | The day, date and start time of the session |
| Cost | The advertised price for that session |
| Book Now | The booking action for that specific session |
To filter the list, use the search at all courses, which also carries the key to our short course codes. For the full catalogue with course descriptions, see course catalogue.
What a row actually commits you to
A row in a schedule is an offer of a specific session on a specific date. Four things are worth checking before clicking through, because the row itself cannot tell you any of them.
1. The advertised cost is not necessarily the total. The figure in the Cost column is the advertised price for the session. Separate non-tuition charges — materials, equipment, amenities or student services — may apply and are not part of a tuition figure. We are required to tell you, before you enrol or before any fee is payable, all fees, costs and charges you will be required to pay, including payment terms and conditions and any applicable refund policy. Ask for that in writing and read the total, not the headline.
2. Whether the session is accredited. A course delivered as nationally recognised training produces a VET statement of attainment against a unit of competency, which appears on your national VET transcript and can be credited towards a qualification later. A non-accredited short course produces a certificate of our own. Our schedule carries both kinds, and some products exist in both forms — Barista Coffee Skills, for instance, runs as a non-accredited short course and as an accredited variant. The course code is the quickest tell, and all courses explains the codes.
3. Whether the delivery mode suits your purpose. This matters most for licensing-linked training. Requirements for alcohol service and food safety supervision are set by state and territory regulators, and some restrict online or self-paced delivery for licensing purposes. A classroom session and a self-paced session can teach the same unit and still not be interchangeable for a licence. Settle that question before you book, not after.
4. Whether a subsidised place is available to you. The advertised cost is the fee-paying price. If you are eligible for a Victorian Skills First place the fee may be lower — but eligibility has real criteria and the number of subsidised commencements per calendar year is capped. See funded enrolment before you book several short courses in one year, because subsidised skill-set commencements are limited to two per calendar year and the limit counts commencements, not completions.
What the cadence looks like
Most of the barista and RSA products run on weekday starts in the morning, with several intakes a month, which is why the schedule usually has multiple rows for the same course name at different dates. Longer programs such as the two-day masterclass occupy consecutive days.
As an indication of the price band rather than a quote: Barista Coffee Skills sessions have been listed at $195.00 on this schedule. Advertised prices change, and the figure that binds is the one in the written fee information we give you for your own enrolment, so treat any number on a schedule page as indicative and confirm before paying.
If the session you want is not there
A missing session usually means one of three things: it is full, it has not been released yet, or that product is not currently scheduled at the location you are filtering on. None of them means the course has stopped running.
Call 03 9654 1554 or use course enquiry and we will tell you what is coming. For employers wanting a cohort on a date that suits a roster rather than our schedule, see workplace training.
Before you pay for any session
Whatever the length of the course, the following must be easily accessible to you:
- the training product code and title, duration, modes of delivery, delivery location, commencement dates and scheduling, and any requirements to commence or complete including assessment requirements;
- whether any licensing or occupational licence requirements apply;
- all fees, costs and charges, including payment terms and conditions, any applicable refund policy, and the availability of any relevant government training entitlements and subsidies;
- any obligations or liabilities imposed on you, including any requirement to acquire materials, equipment or IT, any costs and processes associated with withdrawing, any costs or processes associated with obtaining a Student Identifier, and any work placement requirement; and
- the training support and wellbeing support services available, and how to access them.
And for an accredited session, you will need a Unique Student Identifier — we cannot issue a statement of attainment to anyone who has not been assigned one. It is free. See USI.
See course enrolment for the process end to end.
Questions and answers
What do the four columns mean?
Name is the course product; Start is the day, date and start time of that session; Cost is the advertised price for the session; Book Now is the booking action for that specific session rather than for the course generally.
Is the price in the Cost column the total I will pay?
Not necessarily. It is the advertised price for the session. Non-tuition charges such as materials or amenities may be separate. We must give you all fees, costs and charges in writing before enrolment or before any fee is payable — ask for that and read the total.
Why are there several rows with the same course name?
Because each row is a different scheduled session. Most short courses run multiple intakes a month, so the same product appears once per available date.
Is the session I am booking nationally recognised?
Check the course code and label. An accredited session produces a VET statement of attainment against a unit of competency, carrying the Nationally Recognised Training logo and recorded against your USI. A non-accredited short course does not. Some products run in both forms. See all courses for the code key.
Why does that distinction matter if I just want the skill?
If you only want the skill, it may not matter at all — a non-accredited course can be exactly the right purchase. It matters if you need the credential to appear on your national transcript, to count towards a qualification later, or to satisfy a regulator.
Will a self-paced or online session satisfy my licensing requirement?
That depends on the regulator in your state, not on us. Some jurisdictions restrict online or self-paced delivery for licensing purposes. This is the most common reason a booking turns out not to count, so confirm the requirement for the state you will work in before you book. See RSA for our jurisdiction-specific pages.
Can I get a subsidised place for a session on this list?
Sometimes. The advertised cost is the fee-paying price. Victorian Skills First eligibility has real criteria, and only courses on our Funded Scope can be subsidised. Subsidised skill-set commencements are also capped at two per calendar year, counting commencements rather than completions. See funded enrolment.
Do I need a USI to book?
For an accredited session you will need one before we can issue your statement of attainment, so get it early rather than at the end. For a non-accredited course there is no statement of attainment and so no USI requirement. It is free either way — see USI.
What happens if I cannot attend after booking?
That is governed by the refund policy and the withdrawal terms we must give you before you pay. Read both before paying rather than after, because they are the terms most likely to matter.
Is the start time the whole day?
The Start column gives the session start. Course duration is part of the information we must make easily accessible, so check the course page or ask us for the finish time, especially for a two-day program.
The course I want is not on the schedule. What now?
It may be full, not yet released, or not currently scheduled at the location you filtered on. Call 03 9654 1554 or use course enquiry.
Can I book a qualification from this schedule?
Usually not. This schedule is for scheduled short courses. Full AQF qualifications run on separate intakes — see course catalogue and workplace training.
We need to train a team. Can you run a private session?
Talk to us. Cohort and workplace delivery is arranged differently from booking individual seats on a public schedule, and an apprenticeship or traineeship pathway may be relevant. See workplace training.
How do I check CHT is registered to deliver what I am booking?
training.gov.au under RTO 3722 — the record shows our scope of registration, whether each code is current, and the extent at which we hold it. For international students, cricos.education.gov.au under provider code 04242E.
Where can I see the schedule a different way?
Try the search at all courses, the upcoming course list, or the calendar.

What are the four columns in a schedule row?
Name, the course product such as Barista Coffee Skills; Start, the day, date and start time of the session; Cost, the advertised price for that session; and Book Now, the booking action for that specific session.
Is the advertised cost the total I will pay?
Not necessarily. The Cost figure is the advertised price for the session, and separate non-tuition charges such as materials, equipment, amenities or student services may apply and are not part of a tuition figure.
What am I entitled to be told about fees?
Before you enrol or before any fee is payable, all fees, costs and charges you will be required to pay, including payment terms and conditions and any applicable refund policy. Ask for that in writing and read the total, not the headline.
Can I tell from the row whether a session is accredited?
Not from the row itself, but the course code is the quickest tell. The schedule carries both accredited and non-accredited sessions, and some products exist in both forms: Barista Coffee Skills, for instance, runs as a non-accredited short course and as an accredited variant. See all courses (/all-courses/) for the code key.

A classroom session and a self-paced session can teach the same unit and still not be interchangeable for a licence. Settle that question before you book, not after.
Is the advertised price the subsidised price?
No, the advertised cost is the fee-paying price. If you are eligible for a Victorian Skills First place the fee may be lower, but eligibility has real criteria.
Why should I check the annual cap before booking several short courses?
Because the number of subsidised commencements per calendar year is capped. Subsidised skill-set commencements are limited to two per calendar year, and the limit counts commencements rather than completions. See funded enrolment (/course-enrol-funded/).
Why are there multiple rows for the same course name?
Because most of the barista and RSA products run on weekday starts in the morning with several intakes a month. Longer programs such as the two-day masterclass occupy consecutive days.
