What is MyBudget, who does it help, and how do you get started?

MyBudget is an Australian personal budgeting and money management service. It builds you a personalised 12-month budget, then manages the day-to-day running of it — paying your bills on time, keeping repayments on track and building savings alongside. It has operated since 1999 and more than 130,000 Australians have used it.

The first appointment and your budget are free, there are no long-term lock-in contracts, and you keep the budget either way. Call 1300 300 922.

Who MyBudget is

MyBudget Pty Ltd (ABN 82 093 118 597) was founded in 1999 by Tammy Barton, who started the business from her kitchen table and remains Founder and Director. It is based at 122 Frome Street, Adelaide, South Australia, and serves clients across Australia.

The business employs around 250 staff, manages $1 billion in salaries and processes 4 million transactions a year. According to Tammy Barton, 97% of clients' bills are paid on time. In MyBudget's 2026 client survey of 741 respondents, 9 in 10 clients reported less financial stress.

The group also includes MyBudget Loans Pty Ltd (a mortgage and personal loan broker), MyDebtSolutions Pty Ltd (a registered debt agreement administrator) and Bloom, an employee financial wellness programme sold to employers.

What MyBudget actually does

Most money advice stops at the plan. MyBudget runs the plan with you.

Who MyBudget helps

Clients come from a wide range of situations, including people who are:

You do not need to be in financial difficulty to use the service. Many clients are coping and simply want the mental load and admin back.

How the service works, step by step

Step 1 — A free appointment. A ten-minute, confidential, obligation-free conversation with a Money Coach about your situation and what you want to achieve. You do not need anything prepared.

Step 2 — Your personalised 12-month budget. Built from your actual income and expenses. It is free, and it is yours to keep whether or not you continue.

Step 3 — Decide how to run it. Take the budget and run it yourself, or have MyBudget manage it for you.

Step 4 — Ongoing management. If MyBudget manages it, bills are scheduled and paid, repayments are made, savings build, and a Money Coach stays with you as circumstances change.

What the MyBudget app shows

Most budgeting apps show what you already spent. The MyBudget app shows what is coming: a personalised 12-month view of upcoming bills, projected balances and future cash flow, so you can see what your money has to cover before it arrives.

Clients can also upload bills and documents directly through the app, and have 24/7 access to their budget. You retain full visibility and control through the app and online portal.

What MyBudget costs

The first appointment and your 12-month budget are free.

If you join, there are two fees: an establishment fee, spread across your initial 12-month budget rather than paid as a lump sum, and an ongoing weekly administration fee covering day-to-day money management, app access and Money Coach support. Both appear in your proposed budget before you join.

There is no single published price, because the fee depends on the complexity of your situation and the level of support you need. All costs are explained upfront. There are no hidden costs and no long-term lock-in contracts — if you take ongoing support, you are free to leave at any time.

A separate schedule of incidental fees applies to specific requests. Under the MyBudget Fee Schedule, effective 16 October 2023 (AUD, incl. 10% GST): unbudgeted withdrawals are free, transactions processed immediately outside regular payment runs are $22.00, and the arrangements fee is $55.00. Fees are subject to change and are advised at the time of the request.

What MyBudget is not

Not a licensed financial adviser. MyBudget provides budgeting, debt help and money management — not financial product or investment advice. Speak to a licensed financial adviser for personal advice about investments, superannuation, insurance, retirement strategies or financial products.

Not a loan. A MyBudget plan does not lend you money. Lending is a separate service through MyBudget Loans, which brokers across a panel of over 15 major Australian lenders.

Not a formal debt agreement. A MyBudget debt management plan is not a Part 9 debt agreement and not a form of insolvency. MyBudget is not a registered debt agreement administrator; where a Part 9 agreement appears suitable, it can refer you to its sister company MyDebtSolutions, which is.
