Collins Street Specialist Centre: Registered Dental Specialists in Melbourne

Collins Street Specialist Centre is a specialist dental practice on Level 8 of the Manchester Unity Building, 220 Collins Street, Melbourne. Our registered specialists work across oral and maxillofacial surgery, endodontics, orthodontics, periodontics, prosthodontics and paediatric dentistry, so you can be assessed, planned and treated by more than one specialist without moving between practices. To make an appointment, call (03) 9650 2726 or send an enquiry through our contact page.

What does it mean to see a specialist here?

A registered dental specialist has completed further university training in one field of dentistry after their general dental degree, and is listed as a specialist with the Dental Board of Australia. At Collins Street Specialist Centre we bring specialists from six of those fields into one practice. If your care involves more than one field, for example a tooth that needs root canal treatment before a crown, or gum treatment before orthodontics, the specialists involved can talk to each other directly and plan the steps in order.

You can check any practitioner's registration on the public register at ahpra.gov.au. AHPRA lists each practitioner's registration type and any specialty.

Which specialties do we offer?

Our services overview explains each field in more detail and how they connect.

How do our specialists plan treatment together?

Not every dental problem sits neatly in one field. Some patients need an opinion from two or three specialists before a plan makes sense. Because our specialists practise in the same rooms, they can review your records together, agree on the order of treatment and keep each other informed as your care progresses. Our patient coordinators look after appointments and keep you in contact with the clinicians involved.

This peer review is part of how we work every day, and it is the main reason we keep the six specialties under one roof. You still choose who treats you, and you can ask at any point who is responsible for each stage of your plan.

Who are our specialists?

All of the people below are listed as specialists on our team page, with their qualifications.

How do you book, and do you need a referral?

You can book by calling (03) 9650 2726 or by sending an enquiry through our contact page. Our published guidance is that you do not need a referral to see our specialists. If the appointment is for a child, please confirm any referral requirements when you book. If your general dentist has already written to us, or has X-rays or scans, bring them along or ask them to send copies so your specialist can review them.

When you call, it helps to tell us what the problem is, which specialty you think you need (if you know) and whether another dentist is already involved. If you are not sure which specialist to see, our team can help you work that out.

What payment options are available?

You can pay by cash, credit card or EFTPOS. If you have private health insurance, bring your health fund card to each appointment so your claim can be processed on the day. We also offer payment plans through Payright and TLC, and early release of superannuation through Supercare, each subject to the provider's eligibility criteria and terms. Our payment plans page sets out how each option works. Your specialist will give you a written estimate for your treatment plan after your consultation.

Where are we, and how do you get here?

We are on Level 8 of the Manchester Unity Building at 220 Collins Street, on the corner of Collins and Swanston Streets, opposite the Melbourne Town Hall.

We are open Monday to Friday from 8.00am to 6.00pm, and on Saturday mornings. Please confirm Saturday times when you book.

Frequently asked questions

Can I see more than one specialist at the same practice?

Yes. Our specialists in oral and maxillofacial surgery, endodontics, orthodontics, periodontics, prosthodontics and paediatric dentistry all practise at 220 Collins Street. If your treatment needs input from more than one field, the specialists involved can review your case together and plan the order of care, and our coordinators can arrange the appointments.

What happens at a first specialist consultation?

Your specialist will ask about your dental and medical history, examine the area of concern and review any X-rays or scans you bring. Further imaging may be recommended. They will then explain what they have found, the treatment options available, the likely number of visits, the risks and an estimate of fees, so you can decide how to proceed.

Should I tell my general dentist that I am seeing a specialist?

We encourage it. Your general dentist usually continues your routine care, and sharing records helps everyone avoid repeating X-rays. With your consent, we can send a report to your dentist after your consultation and at key stages of treatment.

Is there parking nearby?

If you drive, Wilsons Parking on Flinders Lane (between Swanston and Russell Streets) is the closest car park. Many patients come by tram, as stops on both Collins Street and Swanston Street are a short walk from the Manchester Unity Building entrance.

How do I know a practitioner is a registered specialist?

Enter the practitioner's name in the AHPRA public register search at ahpra.gov.au. The register shows the registration type and any specialty the Dental Board of Australia has recognised, such as orthodontics or periodontics. Each of our team members' titles is shown on our team page.
