Hot Water Pressure Cleaning Melbourne
Hot Water Pressure Cleaning Melbourne
Most pressure cleaning operators in Melbourne use cold water. It is cheaper to run, the equipment costs less, and for light cleaning it does an acceptable job. But for anything involving oil, grease, biological growth, or serious contamination, cold water is not enough.
At Water Wash, hot water pressure cleaning is our specialty. It is not an add-on or an upsell. It is what we do on every job because we have seen the difference it makes, and we will not compromise on results.
What Is Hot Water Pressure Cleaning?
Hot water pressure cleaning uses heated water, typically between 60°C and 80°C, delivered at high pressure through professional spray equipment. Our truck-mounted units heat water on-site using diesel-fired burners, so we do not rely on the property’s hot water supply.
At 80°C and 4,000 PSI, our systems deliver cleaning power that cold water units simply cannot match, regardless of how much pressure they generate.
Why Hot Water Beats Cold Water Every Time
Oil and Grease Removal
This is where the difference is most dramatic. Cold water displaces oil temporarily. It pushes it to the edges and it returns within days. Hot water breaks the molecular bond between oil and the surface, lifting it permanently.
Think about washing dishes. Greasy plates in cold water stay greasy no matter how hard you scrub. Add hot water and the grease dissolves instantly. The same principle applies to industrial oil stains, car park drips, loading dock contamination, and kitchen exhaust residue.
Mould, Algae, and Biological Growth
Cold water removes visible mould and algae but leaves the root system (mycelium) alive in the pores of the surface. Within weeks, the growth returns. Hot water at 80°C kills biological growth on contact, down to the root. This means surfaces stay cleaner for longer between cleans.
On Melbourne’s south-facing walls, shaded driveways, and damp areas under trees, this is the difference between a clean that lasts 3 months and one that lasts 12 months or more.
Chewing Gum
Chewing gum bonds to concrete and asphalt at a molecular level. Cold water barely softens it. Hot water breaks the bond, allowing gum to be lifted cleanly from the surface. In a typical car park clean, we remove hundreds of pieces of gum that cold water would leave behind.
Bacteria and Sanitisation
Hot water at 80°C kills bacteria, E.coli, salmonella, and other pathogens on contact. This is critical for food processing areas, commercial kitchens, childcare centres, aged care facilities, and healthcare premises where hygiene standards must be met.
Cleaning Speed
Hot water cleans faster than cold water across every surface type. Faster cleaning means less time on your property, less water used, less disruption, and often a lower overall cost despite the higher running cost of heated equipment.
Our Hot Water Equipment
We operate truck-mounted hot water pressure cleaning units. These are not portable domestic machines with a heating element bolted on. Our systems are purpose-built commercial units mounted permanently in our service vehicles.
Specifications:
- Water temperature: up to 80°C
- Operating pressure: up to 4,000 PSI
- Flow rate: 15 to 21 litres per minute
- Power source: Diesel-fired burners (self-contained)
- Water supply: On-board tank + mains connection where available
The truck-mounted setup means we arrive ready to work. No setup time, no reliance on your power supply, no dragging portable units around the site.
Where Hot Water Makes the Biggest Difference
While we use hot water on virtually every job, these are the applications where the difference compared to cold water is most significant:
- Car park cleaning — Oil stain removal that actually lasts
- Driveway cleaning — Oil drips, tyre marks, mould in shaded areas
- Commercial kitchens and food areas — Grease removal and sanitisation
- Loading docks — Diesel, hydraulic fluid, food waste
- Industrial facilities — Factory floors, machinery surrounds
- Facade cleaning — Mould and pollution on building exteriors
- Bin storage areas — Bacteria, odour, and organic waste
- Roof cleaning — Lichen and moss that cold water cannot kill
Hot Water vs Steam Cleaning
Some operators advertise “steam cleaning” for outdoor surfaces. True steam cleaning uses water above 100°C at low pressure and is generally used for indoor surfaces, upholstery, and detailing. It is not effective for large outdoor areas.
Our hot water pressure cleaning at 80°C and high pressure is purpose-built for outdoor commercial and residential surfaces. It delivers the cleaning power of heat combined with the mechanical action of pressure.
Questions We Get Asked
Is hot water safe for all surfaces?
We adjust temperature and pressure for every surface. Delicate surfaces like softwood timber and some painted finishes get lower temperature and pressure. Concrete, brick, and metal get the full 80°C treatment.
Does it cost more than cold water cleaning?
Our pricing reflects the superior results. In many cases, hot water cleaning is actually more cost-effective because surfaces stay cleaner for longer between cleans, reducing the total annual cost of maintenance.
Do you use chemicals as well?
For most jobs, hot water alone does the work. Where heavy contamination, grease build-up, or specific staining requires it, we use biodegradable commercial-grade cleaning agents. We never use harsh chemicals that could damage surfaces or harm the environment.
Can you clean in cold weather?
Yes. Our diesel-fired burners heat water regardless of ambient temperature. We clean year-round, including through Melbourne’s winter months.
