What is Periodontitis?

Periodontitis is a bacterial infection of the gums and bone that surround your teeth. If left un-managed it can lead to inflammation underneath the gums, which can cause pain, sensitivity, and be very uncomfortable. If left untreated, it can destroy the bone around your teeth causing the teeth to become loose and in severe cases - eventually lost.

THE MOST COMMON SIGNS OF PERIODONTAL DISEASE CAN INCLUDE:

Before managing anything periodontal related it is important that we have the full picture. A thorough examination is required where we will check all around your teeth.

The most common and effective management of periodontal disease is a process called Dental Scaling. Dental Scaling involves the removal of hard build-up called calculus, which builds up on the surface of the tooth and the roots. These areas are hard to reach when brushing and flossing.

In some cases, if your periodontal disease is extensive we may refer you to our Specialist Periodontist.
