Interstate Moving Cost Guides
Choose the guide for the route you are considering, then check its inventory, access and location assumptions before applying a price range to your move. The figures are published planning examples. Ask for a current written quote using your own addresses, load and dates.
Compare the available route guides
Read each price table with its assumptions
The guides group estimates by property size and describe minimum charges. Bedroom labels help organise examples, but the actual furniture and carton volume remains important. A lightly furnished home and a densely furnished home of the same size can require different truck space and handling.
Check whether an example assumes inner-metro locations and standard ground-floor access. Tell the coordinator about stairs, lifts, long carries, restricted parking, height limits or a smaller shuttle vehicle. Those details affect the work and may differ from the assumptions used for the table.
Read the named-suburb examples as separate examples. Their access and inventories can differ from the broad table, so a figure outside a listed band is not a reason to substitute the lowest number for your quote. Ask the team to explain the assumptions behind the amount you receive.
Separate the base move from additional work
The route guides describe transport, wrapping, loading, unloading and inventory-related tasks, with optional services such as packing, assembly, specialist items and partner transport. Identify which apply to your move and have them itemised.
Some guides advertise four weeks of complimentary storage. Confirm the facility, booking conditions, access and charges after that period. Do not apply the offer automatically to another route or a standalone storage booking. Compare storage options before selecting an arrangement.
The guides also discuss higher labour rates for some after-hours, weekend or public-holiday work, peak-period demand and minimum charges or volumes. Confirm the date and charging basis for the actual service rather than treating a historical example as an available rate.
Check volume and timing independently
Use measuring furniture in cubic metres to understand the volume calculation. Provide unusual dimensions and specialist items separately. An inventory calculator can help describe the load but cannot replace access and handling information.
Ask for collection and delivery windows, not only the driving time. Routing, loading, scheduling and storage can affect the whole relocation. Sole-use and other service arrangements may differ, so compare the schedule as well as the price when choosing.
Keep the goods you need before delivery accessible. If the delivery property is not ready, discuss the revised storage or redelivery plan and its price before relying on the original estimate.
Compare the quote rather than the headline
Send the same inventory, access and requested services to each removalist you are comparing. Check crew or carrier responsibility, communication, insurance and booking terms alongside the total. An unusually low number should lead to a scope check, not an assumption that the service is identical.
Ask how a changed inventory, date or access would be handled. Keep revisions in writing and retain the current quote with the booking documents. If a line item is unclear, ask for an explanation before paying a deposit.
Use How to Choose a Good Removalist for the comparison checklist and interstate removal services for direct route navigation. Read insurance arrangements to distinguish business cover from cover for your own goods.
When a guide cannot settle the answer
A guide cannot confirm availability for your chosen date, the suitability of a vehicle for your driveway, a particular policy's cover or the final price of an unusual item. Put those questions into the quote request with the information needed to assess them.
If your route is not represented by a cost article, use the relevant interstate service page and contact the team. Do not extrapolate a reverse-direction price or a different city's table without confirmation. The distance alone does not establish the full operational cost.
If the figures in a guide and your written quote differ, ask which assumptions changed. Volume, access, locations, timing and optional tasks are the appropriate points to compare. The written booking should make the agreed service and amount clear.
Request a detailed quote with your collection and delivery suburbs, inventory, dates and access information, or contact Fragile Removals to discuss an unresolved requirement.
Build a like-for-like cost worksheet
For each guide or quote you compare, record the route, publication or quote date and the inventory it describes. Keep the displayed property-size range separate from the amount quoted for your own goods. This prevents the lowest figure in a broad table becoming an assumed total.
Record what is known about collection and delivery access, including metro or depot assumptions, stairs, parking and any additional vehicle requirement. Then list packing, storage, assembly, specialist goods and other services as included, excluded or awaiting confirmation. An unanswered item should remain visible in the comparison.
Finally, record the available collection and delivery windows and any minimum charge or change conditions. If two offers use different assumptions, ask for clarification using the same details before choosing. Do not average unrelated route prices or infer a missing city-pair price from a journey with a similar distance.
Keep the completed worksheet with the written quotation and update it if the inventory changes. The cost guides provide context for the conversation; the agreed booking documents establish the service and price basis you will use for the move.
Are the route-guide prices fixed quotes?
No. The route articles provide published planning ranges and examples, often using property size, volume and access assumptions. Your final quote needs the actual addresses, inventory, dates and services. Check whether an example assumes inner-metro locations, ground-floor access or particular loading conditions, then disclose anything different such as stairs, a long carry or a shuttle requirement. Compare the written inclusions and optional work as well as the amount. A displayed range is not confirmation of a current rate, available date or complete price for an unusual load.
Can I use a reverse-direction price for my route?
Do not assume the reverse direction has the same price or schedule. The guides relate to named routes and service assumptions; distance alone does not define collection arrangements, routing, availability or optional work. If the direction you need is not covered, use the appropriate interstate service page and provide your addresses and inventory to the team. Ask for a written quote for that journey rather than transferring the lowest figure from a different route. The same applies when a regional address differs from a metropolitan example.
What should I compare when two estimates differ?
First check that both quotes describe the same load, locations, access and dates. Then compare the charging basis and minimums, packing and materials, storage, specialist handling, collection and delivery windows, and the party responsible for each stage. Ask what changes the total if the inventory or access changes. A price difference may reflect a different scope rather than a like-for-like saving. Keep unanswered points marked as unresolved and obtain clarification before paying a deposit or selecting an offer solely because its headline amount is lower.
How should I interpret a bedroom-size table and a named-suburb example?
A bedroom label is a way to organise an example, not a measurement of every household's goods. Compare the actual furniture, cartons and unusual items, then read the access and location assumptions beside the figures. A named-suburb example may have a different load or handling requirement from a broad table, so it should not automatically replace that table or your own quote. Ask the team which assumptions apply to the price you receive and provide an inventory detailed enough to explain the difference.
How should I compare storage offers and delivery schedules?
Record the collection and delivery windows separately and ask whether any date is confirmed or estimated. If a route advertises a complimentary storage period, check eligibility, the facility, access, return delivery and the charge after it ends. Do not apply an offer from one route to every booking. Identify essentials needed before delivery and any goods you might retrieve during storage. Compare the complete period and service responsibilities alongside the price, particularly when the new property's handover date is uncertain.
